Information Technology GIS Specialist

A2 Ann Arbor, MI (Onsite) Full-Time
Temporary Information Technology GIS Specialist

Starting Hourly Rate: $18.68

This position can work remotely.

Nature of Work:

  • Digitizing information collected in the field using ArcGIS
  • Reading and Reviewing Site Plans, Development Plans, and Property Maps
  • Editing GIS attribute tables using Desktop software
  • Updating feature class metadata
  • Managing feature annotation feature classes
  • Aligning property boundaries with other feature class boundaries (e.g., zoning, census tracts) using desktop software
  • Position may also perform data collection in the field (taking coordinates of utilities, measuring diameter/metrics, and capturing images – Fieldwork scope includes fiber optic utilities, property record benchmarks, signs and signals, and other city managed assets)
Required Qualifications:
  • If hired, candidate is required to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 no later than their start date or have a City of Ann Arbor approved medical / religious exemption
  • High School diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Experience with ArcGIS Desktop (Preferably ArcGIS Pro)
  • Ability to work independently
  • Experience with capturing and the interpretation of digital images
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Experience using the Public Land Survey System (Township and Range System)
  • Exposure to the use of Site Plans and Engineering Design Drawings
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Enterprise geodatabases
  • Experience with Collector/Field Maps for ArcGIS Online
  • Knowledge of fiber optic network structure and public utility structures
  • Experience with GPS units
  • Experience with Survey Descriptions and Coordinate Geometry

Positions in this class typically require: reaching, lifting, grasping and repetitive motions. Individual must be able to either hear, talk, or see. Move and lift light objects less than 20 lbs. such as mail, files, and supplies. Operating office equipment requiring continuous or repetitive hand/arm movements. The ability to remain in a sitting position for extended periods of time.

This position may require walking and standing to conduct fieldwork.

The ability to perceive color as defined by the Inter Society Color Council – National Bureau of Standards system.
