Job Description

POSITION OBJECTIVE

This objective of this position is to create technical designs and documentation of components and fabrications for global manufacture.
                       
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Initiate and develop design concepts to meet cost and schedule objectives using CAD system with clearly defined tasks and steps established by the supervisor.
  • Have detailed knowledge of the capabilities and skilled usage of the CAD system.
  • Have a solid understanding of engineering systems and processes such as ECN, Work Request and A/R process.
  • Have detailed knowledge of a product line.
  • Assist in multiple projects at a time with limited scope.
  • Active participation in immediate team activities and with cross-functional team activities. Will interface with vendors to locate and select components and will interact with customers to better understand requirements of machines.
  • Perform calculations involving Algebra and Trig functions.  Basic knowledge of techniques such as geometric dimensioning and tolerance, torque, power, and voltage calculations, etc.
  • Be knowledgeable of manufacturing processes and shop capabilities.
  • Participate in writing test requests and reports, testing of design concepts and analyzing results.
PROBLEM SOLVING

Problem solving is the extent to which the position is governed by established practices, rules, regulations, manuals, counsel/advice and independent thinking.  Describe the degree of complexity and/or original thinking required to fulfill the principal responsibilities.  Describe the job’s greatest challenge(s.)
 
Takes design concepts and develops them into documentation than can be manufactured into the finished product. Will coordinate drafting effort of detail drawings. Reports to Group/Team Leader, but may be directed by Program Manager or Design Engineers.  This position has no subordinates.
This position most frequently interacts within the program team, but will interact with assembly line employees, Manufacturing and Sourcing.  This is done in order to produce design concepts that are the most effective and useful to the division.
The job’s greatest challenge is to be able to generate creative and innovative designs in the most efficient and effective manner.
 
MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENT
  • Associate degree in design/drafting technology with 2 years of CAD and technical experience.
MINIMUM YEARS of EXPERIENCE NECESSARY      
  • 2 - 5
