Description Are you experienced with RF and microwave component design, analysis, and development for High Power Microwave (HPM) and other applications? If so, were looking for someone like you to join our team at APL! We are seeking an RF/microwave engineer to design, analyze, and develop electronics for High Power Microwave weapons and other RF systems. You ll be joining a hard-working team of engineers who thrive on making critical contributions to our Nations critical challenges. As an RF Engineer you will: * Perform system-level RF analysis, including link budgets, propagation effects, and lethality assessments.
* Evaluate lethality and effectiveness of HPM and other RF systems against air and missile threats through experimentation, simulation, and analysis. * Propose, analyze, and test novel RF concepts including at the system level, novel waveforms, new hardware designs, etc. * Understand kill chain integration of RF and HPM systems, working with systems engineers, combat system experts, and sensor experts to evaluate or perform activities such as: end to end mission modeling, technical concept design, requirements definition, development phases, technical reviews, budget and schedule development.
* Assist in other RF development activities as needed, such as RF communications or electronic warfare. * Lead technical team(s) throughout development cycle, including conceptualization, trade studies, prototype work, flight development, integration, and test.
* As needed, perform analog, RF circuit, amplifier, and/or antenna design, simulation, development and test. Duties could include board layout, circuit-level analysis, schematic development, and test design. * Assist project and program management in sponsor engagement. Qualifications You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you... * A BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
* 5 or more years of recent, hands-on experience in RF and microwave electronics development, or related field.
* Experience with programming languages such as MATLAB and Python. * A high motivation and ability to work well in a team-oriented environment with good communication skills.
* Are willing and able to accommodate: flexible hours for system level testing and integration activities for short periods of time, infrequent travel to customer or sponsor locations, as well as to integration and test sites.
* Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret, level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
* Can demonstrate that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Youll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you... * MS or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on high frequency and high power RF and microwave design
* Experience with High Power Microwave system design and test
* Experience with HPM source or prime power design
* Experience with RF circuit layout and packaging.
* Experience designing and executing conducted and radiated RF experiments, including scripting instrument control, data collection and documentation.
* Experience with RF circuit principles and microwave and electromagnetic tools and simulators such as ADS, Microwave Office, and/or HFSS. * Experience with antenna design for high power applications
* Familiarity with a mechanical CAD package (SOLIDWORKS or AutoCAD)
* History of external publications.
* Experience with layout and schematic capture tools such as Mentor and Altium.
* Experience with high-frequency and high-power packaging design techniques.
* Experience with RF characterization and measurements from HF up to Ka band
* Experience with high reliability hardware development from conceptual design through delivery.
* Detailed knowledge of discrete transistor-based circuit design, test, and analysis. Why work at APL?
