QC Technician - Floater

Responsible for performing inspections and laboratory analysis utilizing a variety of techniques, to ensure quality of production.  This includes quality checks of raw materials used in the production process to ensure they meet ISO standards; quality checks of production samples and final products prior to shipment to the customer.  This includes transferring clear and accurate data from all laboratory analyses performed to the appropriate department.  Heavy work volume is often continuous.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be able to perform the general duties of Technician.
  • Performs more complex QC testing, including the set-up of instrumentation parameters to meet different customer requirements.   Is an expert in the use of one particular analyzer instrument, or is cross-functional across many different labs within QC.  Performs instrument calibrations for ICP and XRF analyzers as needed.
  • Performs regular scheduled in-house maintenance and routine repairs of testing instrumentation. 
  • Responsible for reviewing QC test data, identifying any unusual or out of control conditions, and assisting in resolving any such conditions.  Investigates reasons for test failures, including whether the failure is occurring on the reactor or analytical side, versus an electrical or mechanical issue with the test instrument.  Follows corrective procedures for analysis or instrument errors. 
  • Works with Supervisor and Chemist to resolve more complex issues.
  • Assists in the implementation of new methods and procedures to support the functions of the QC department, in addition to making changes to existing procedures.  Applies statistical control principles in maintaining accurate and precise measurement capabilities throughout the QC laboratories.  Performs correlation studies and instrument capability studies as needed. 
  • Assists in training other QC technicians. 

Are you the ideal candidate?

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or related field with 0-4 years experience; or 
  • Associates degree in technical field with minimum 4 years related experience, of which 2-4 years are direct experience working in QC; or
  • High School Diploma with college level coursework in Chemistry and Mathematics plus a minimum of 5+ years experience, of which 1-3 years are direct experience working in QC.
  • Ability to follow directions and procedures.
