Description
Our law firm is seeking a family attorney who can assist our clients in navigating the sensitive legal issues of family law, including child custody, child abuse, and domestic violence. Jobseekers should be equally familiar with prenuptial agreements, divorce, alimony, child support, and real estate, and be able to effectively engage in oral debate and negotiation even in highly stressful and emotional situations. Responsibilities
- Prepare legal documents such as legal pleadings, motions, marital settlement agreements, contracts, judgments, and orders for various cases.
- Work closely with paralegals and senior partners to ensure swift action through the civil litigation process.
- Assist clients effectively by understanding their needs, analyzing the situation, then strategizing and deciding on a proper course of action.
- Attend court proceedings as needed to represent clients.
- Manage the division of marital assets, including real estate, during divorce proceedings when needed.
- Organize and maintain client files to ensure they are kept current.
Qualifications
- Must be licensed to practice law in the State of MD (strong consideration for licensure in DC).
- Prior experience representing clients in hearings, trials, and mediation required.
- Persuasive writing skills and verbal communication skills are critical, along with management of support staff and interpersonal skills.
- Great legal research skill is a must.
- Extra consideration for those with a criminal justice background.
- Candidates should be great negotiators and communicators, specifically in situations when emotions and stress are high.
- Proven record of success in advocating for plaintiffs and defendants.
- At least 1-2 years of working in a law firm on family law issues as well as real estate (determining marital property) is necessary.
- 4-year degree with a legal background and J.D. degree are necessary for this position.
Compensation
$135,000 - $170,000 DOE
