Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Crossroads Treatment Centers Abingdon, VA Full Time


Position Summary: The Nurse Practitioner position is responsible for the evaluation and treatment of patients with Mental Health Illness. The ideal candidate will have a background in mental health with extensive experience treating mild to moderate mental health disorders, especially anxiety and depression, in the context of substance use disorders. The ideal candidate will also have the knowledge and skills to provide prevention, screening, intervention, and treatment related to mental health and substance use disorders.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following and other duties that are assigned.

  • Models appropriate physical and emotional boundaries with clients and co-workers
  • Performing initial examinations, including physical exams and patient observations
  • Ordering Labs as appropriate
  • Communicating Test results to Patients
  • Prescribe appropriate medications and treatments as indicated by patient assessment.
  • Coordinate care with ancillary healthcare providers and making referrals when appropriate
  • Keep updated on current drug abuse and treatment information
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a treatment plan
  • Monitor patients continuously and maintains a safe, protective environment for the patients.
  • Completes Medical documentation according to Crossroads standards.
  • Documents any incidents or unusual occurrences per policy and procedure.
  • Collaborate with MD as needed

Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Licensed and in good standing with the State in which you are practicing
  • Mental health experience
  • Experience with substance use disorder treatment is preferred
  • Having a DEA license and XDEA waiver is a plus
  • Great written and verbal communication skills
  • Great listening skills
  • Great Organization skills
  • Time management skills
  • Empathy and compassion
  • Ability to connect with patients' over tele-medicine

If recovering, three years of continuous verifiable abstinence is required.


Education and/or Experience:

Master's of Science in Nursing

Valid state Nurse Practitioner License
