The Opportunity

The Buyer II - Cookware, Gadgets & Tabletop is charged with buying saleable product by discovering, encouraging, and cultivating new ideas while keeping the customer at the heart of everything that they do. This role requires strong assortment planning skills for both Private Brands as well as National Brands. There is a heavy focus on product development that requires deep product knowledge in order to provide valuable guidance to our DDGS team. Responsibilities include assembling seasonally appropriate merchandise assortments and identifying and developing key promotional business drivers for designated category and brand that will relate to customers. Build their business by identifying and executing strategies as well as collaborating with internal teams to maximize sales.

Responsible for translating strategies into compelling and achievable goals. Works very closely with DMM and GMM. Acts as a primary backup to Sr. Buyer/DMM. Attends and presents at leadership meetings, as needed.

Your Impact

* To develop and execute the buying office strategies and manage the day-to-day office functions.
* To select and buy product; to develop and execute product, concepts, shows, brands and ideas that achieve business goals (aligned to Buying KPIs).
* To develop and own talent in the Product Teams centered around the WCM key differentiators (i.e. Assistant Buyer)
* Develop and execute multi-platform short and mid-range buying plans that meet or exceed the financial goals.
* Develop multi-platform plans that will deliver sales, productivity, adjusted gross margin, TSV/TS achievement rates and inventory plans. Identify areas of growth while managing areas of risk.
* Execute the vision for Buying area.
* Identify and develop new products and brands that will deliver the Buying area strategy.
* Seek and analyze data from a variety of sources to support decisions.
* Drive innovation. Develop an entrepreneurial and creative approach to developing new, innovative ideas that will deliver results. Accelerate product discovery. Lean into emerging categories and product adjacencies.
* Develop a compelling item business with strategies of identifying, developing and building brand growth.
* Curate unique products and assortments and develop storytelling that illustrates a product's features by way of its benefits and show how product will impact the customer's life.
* Develop high-performing team members guided by the World Class Merchandising Differentiators.
* Develop talent, delegate effectively, celebrate diversity within the team and manage performance. Develop skills and knowledge needed for high performance guided by the learning plans.
* Create a coaching and feedback rich environment by supporting the team's development.
* Effectively develop internal relationships with cross-functional partners to deliver business results.
* Manage vendor relationships. Effectively conduct vendor negotiations that best supports business objectives.
* Discover new vendors and leverage existing vendors to deliver on product assortments.
* Active participant in strategic business negotiations and discussions with vendors as it pertains to the Product, Productivity and Growth (PPG) initiative to deliver the committed product savings.
* Develop strong relationships with Category Strategy and Business Development and Product Development Teams to execute business and product strategies.

What You Bring

* Bachelor's Degree or equivalent business experience.
* Minimum of five years' experience in a Retail Buying environment or equivalent position.
* Professional Experience within similar category industry is preferred but not required. We are looking for strong national brand/ PD backgrounds.
* Demonstrated ability to operate independently requiring limited supervision and exercise proper judgment. Build strong relationships networks throughout the organization.
* Effective developer of future Buyers with leadership skills. Must be a strong leader to provide coaching and feedback rich environment supporting the team's development.
