Position Specific Description

NextEra Energy Resources is looking for a Principal Engineer to join their team in Juno Beach, FL.  The Principal Engineer is responsible for the medium voltage (34.5 kV) collection system that carries power from distributed sources of renewable energy (Wind, Solar, Battery Storage) to the collection substation.  This will include both overhead and underground collection systems, padmount transformers and grounding transformers.   You will lead value engineering efforts, introduce new technologies, lead and support department strategic initiatives, develop specifications and scopes of work, conduct design reviews, conduct technical studies, troubleshoot field construction issues and approve new products.  


The selected candidate must have proven leadership ability, capable of leading a team of Consultants and industry experts to develop solutions to collection system problems, including quality control of products, evaluating non-conformances and component failures, and improving component utilization.  The candidate must be capable of developing best management practices for design of collection systems and for special studies such as VAR and voltage studies to verify compliance with regulatory and large generation interconnection agreement requirements.   The candidate must also understand and review cost of losses analysis for collection feeders and pad-mounted transformers.

The candidate must have a thorough knowledge of medium voltage distribution and collection system design and associated components.  This includes rubber molded goods, padmount and grounding transformers, arrestors, TR-XLPE UG cable, splices, and terminations. The position requires coordination with other groups to ensure the projects are successful.  Generally responsible for representing E&C’s internal and external interests on assigned projects, including presentations/briefing on current progress, issues, and risk mitigation in meetings with various levels of management.    

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred.  Project Engineering or Operations experience with a strong bias for action and P.E in related discipline is a plus.

Required
•    Minimum of 7 years of direct experience in the development, design, engineering, and construction of medium voltage distribution/collection systems.  
•    The ideal candidate must have a strong knowledge of distribution design, excellent communication and project management skills, a bias for action, proven analytical and problem-solving skills, and an ability to provide value engineering and ensure design quality.  
•    The position requires technical competence such as the ability to understand one line and three-line diagrams, collection system designs, plan and profiles and other common deliverables.
•    Travel required within North America.
