Job Description

The Antenatal ChargeRegistered Nurse
The Department Charge Nurseis a Registered Nurse who is accountable to the Nursing Director for clinicaland operations functions of an assigned unit.  The Charge Nurse assumesthe responsibility of managing the unit’s clinical and operations activities inthe absence of the Director and/or Manager.
TheAntenatal RN provides direct patient care to antepartum patients in afamily-centered approach, in accordance with established policies, procedures,and protocols of the healthcare organization, as well as guidelines of professionalorganizations.
 
The Antenatal RN overseesand directs the care of high-risk and critical-care pregnant women and theirfamilies.  The Antenatal RN is responsible for the care of high-risk,critical-care pregnant patients and their families in the antepartum and/orpostpartum period.  Provides care to high-risk, and critical-carepregnant women and their families.
 
The Antenatal RN serves asthe primary nurse leading the collaboration of all disciplines forwell-coordinated patient care.
 
The Antenatal RN overseesand directs the care of assistive personnel, maintaining final accountabilityfor the care given to assigned patients.
 
When the need arises, theemployee will perform other duties within the scope of practice as assigned byhis or her supervisor.

Job Requirements

Position Requirements:
 
Licensure/Certification/Registration:  Current Louisiana RN license/Permit.  A Perinatal Certification by any nationallyrecognized certification organization is recommended.
 
Education:  Graduate from an accredited school ofprofessional nursing.  BSN preferred.
 
Experience:  At least one year of nursing experience inmaternal/child or critical care preferred.
 
SpecialQualifications: CPR through AHA upon hire; NRP within 6 months from date ofhire; ACLS within 6 months from date of hire; Fetal Heart Monitoring Education.Also,
Completion of the designated introductory fetal heart monitoring programwithin 1 month post hire. Completion of the designated intermediate fetal heartmonitoring education program by 6 months of hire for an RN with previous fetalheart monitoring experience and by one (1) year of hire of an RN with no fetalheart monitoring experience into a labor & delivery role. Completion of thedesignated advanced fetal heart monitoring education program every two (2)years after completion of the designated intermediate fetal heart
