JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary
Department: Lab Cytology
Shift timings: 07:30 - 16:00 Hours. Monday to friday (3 Days/12 Hours)
Per Week: 36 Hours
Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform microscopic examination of cellular samples, applying staining techniques and employing various laboratory equipment to identify and classify abnormal cells.
- Interpret the morphological features of cells to detect the presence of precancerous or cancerous conditions, infections, or other abnormalities.
- Collaborate with pathologists and other healthcare professionals to evaluate test results and contribute to the formulation of accurate diagnosis reports.
- Maintain accurate records of samples analyzed, test results, and any necessary follow-up procedures or recommendations.
- Ensure quality control measures are implemented and followed rigorously to maintain accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.
- Stay updated with the latest advances in cytological techniques, diagnostic criteria, and equipment to ensure the highest standard of practice.
- Provide guidance and support to laboratory staff, including training new technicians or assistants, as needed.
- Adhere to established laboratory safety protocols, including the proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including evaluating and implementing new laboratory procedures or technologies.
- Communicate effectively with patients, explaining procedures and addressing any concerns or questions they may have regarding sample collection or test results.
- BLS and ACLS
- National Institutes of Health (NIH)
- Sound knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology.
- The ability to stand for extended periods.
- Strong technical skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Passionate about patient care
- Requires a minimum of two years of current Cyto Technologist experience.
- Graduate from a fully accredited Cyto Technologist program
- Active unencumbered Indiana Cyto Technologist license
- One year of Cerner experience

- A can-do, team oriented attitude is essential, as the ability to work independently and to interact easily with physicians, other managers and staff throughout the department and hospital.
- Effective interpersonal/communication, organizational, and the flexibility to handle multiple tasks.
