Section Manager - Hot Strip Operations

AK Steel’s Mansfield, OH operation has an immediate need for an OPERATIONS SECTION MANAGER - HOT STRIP to join our team.  The OPERATIONS SECTION MANAGER, will be responsible for providing supervision, scheduling, budgets, and meeting safety and quality objectives.  The ideal candidate will have exemplary supervisor skills and communication skills.    Our facility is the leading producer of specialty flat rolled stainless steels.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintains supervisory control over work activities of the Shift Managers and crews with respect to safety, quality, and production
  • Conducts daily toolbox safety meetings, monthly departmental safety meetings, planned safety observations and inspections with the focus being on Safety and Quality
  • Develops, reviews, and updates JSHA’s (Job Safety and Health Analysis) to eliminate safety hazards
  • Works closely with the Hot Strip Manager in resolving operating difficulties or concerns and makes recommendations for maintenance
  • Maintains contact with other operating departments with respect to scheduling, delays and / or problems on a daily basis
  • Works closely with Cost Accounting to adhere to monthly departmental budget goals


  • 5-7 years exemplary supervisory skills
  • Requires knowledge of industrial operation
  • Hot Strip Rolling Mill knowledge is preferred
  • Ability to make critical adjustments in emergency situations
  • Experience in a steelmaking facility and union environment preferred
  • Strong communication and computer skills
  • Ability to lead and motivate employees
