Environmental Scientist / Risk Assessor (Senior-Level)

We are currently seeking a senior-level Environmental Scientist / Risk Assessor to join our Environmental Services group. We are flexible on office location based in one of our Northeast GHD offices.

Our environmental consultants in North America are involved in conducting environmental risk assessments by applying their toxicology background to support product registration and regulatory compliance determinations, including reuse of waste materials. Environmental risk assessments typically involve combining chemical toxicity with exposure estimates to assess human & ecological health risks and develop risk management strategies to support contaminated site decision-making under Federal, state, and international site cleanup programs.

These projects involve addressing waste material and soil, groundwater, sediment and surface water contamination; performing fate/transport and exposure modeling (including vapor intrusion, air emission and dispersion); statistical analysis; spatial analysis; developing remediation/risk management plans; and providing technical support for multiple and diverse project teams including public communication of risk assessment findings and outcomes.

In this role, your responsibilities will include

  • Perform and lead ecological risk assessments (ERA) under multiple North American and/or International regulatory frameworks
  • Preform and lead natural resource damage assessments (NRDA)
  • Develop work plans and oversee field investigations to support ERA and NRDA
  • Analyze data and prepare reports, technical memoranda, and correspondence
  • Interact and communicate with environmental risk assessment scientists, engineers, and project managers throughout GHD network
  • Communicate directly with clients and regulatory agencies throughout North America (and potentially Internationally)
  • Manage multiple projects and support teams

The successful candidate will possess the following skills and qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree and/or PhD in Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, Fisheries, Wildlife Biology, or closely related field
  • Minimum of 15 years previous experience with Environmental Risk Assessment (ERA) and Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA)
  • Strong background in data analysis and biostatistics
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills, attention to detail, and excellent computer skills
  • Willingness to travel throughout North American
  • Must be a self-starter, flexible, team player, willing and able to work on a wide variety of tasks
