Job Requirements

  • Must have a certification as an MLT or MLS/MT by the ASCP or equivalent or be eligible for certification and be certified within six months of the day of hire.
  • Six Months experience using clinical laboratory techniques comparable to those performed at BAMC
  • Knowledge, skills and abilities required to develop, evaluate and perform laboratory procedures using independent judgment.  Must be able to detect problems when they occur and to problem solve with little assistance.
  • Ability to work with and communicate with patients of all ages, families, hospital staff, physicians, and clients in a tactful and professional manner.
Working Conditions:
Potential exposure to Latex products, blood borne pathogens, hazardous materials, and communicable diseases.

Medical Technologist

Bay Area Medical Center Marinette Part-Time

  • Performs routine and special testing using automated, semi-automated and manual methods, following good laboratory practice. 
  • Collects specimens from patients of all age groups from infant to geriatric. 
  • Interacts with laboratory staff, physicians, nursing, patients, families, client and other hospital staff in a professional manner.
  • Works independently with little supervision. 
Essential Functions:
  • Provides Excellent Customer Service.
  • Participates in process improvement activities and service recovery.
  • Participates in and Supports all Bay Area Medical Center service and improvement activities, projects, and educational programs.
  • Performs routine and special testing accurately and precisely, following established procedures.  Reviews results; calls and documents critical and STAT values.
  • Operates and performs simple troubleshooting of instruments used for producing test results on patients' specimens.
  • Recognizes testing problems and solves and reports problems.
  • Performs and properly documents designated quality control procedures, including proficiency testing procedures.
  • Participates in laboratory Quality Assurance studies.
  • Collects specimens from patients of all ages as required using venipuncture and microcollection techniques. 
  • Performs designated computer operations, including accessioning, printing reports, posting results, result inquiry, printing billing reports, and editing results.
  • Documents instances of laboratory error, failure to follow procedure and other events which result in unexpected outcomes that may have a negative impact on patient care.
  • Trains MLT Students and new employees.  May train personnel in other departments such as nursing to perform phlebotomy procedures in their areas.
  • Interacts with hospital staff, patients, and clients to answer questions or explain procedures.
  • Attends mandatory inservice training and department meetings and takes personal responsibility for learning through continuing education.
  • Must be able to complete the physical, sensory and mental requirements of the position.

  • Additional duties as may be assigned by your supervisor.
