Performs both standard and specializedElectroencephalograph recordings in the EEG laboratory and all inpatient careunits of the medical center.  PerformsEvoked potential testing and long term inpatient video monitoring.  Trains lower level technologists, traineesand assigned resident.

Responsibilities:A listing of the key responsibilities:

  1. Securesappropriate patient information, explains test procedures to patients andprovides patient support and comfort. Performs routine EEG’s.  Attacheselectrodes in standard 10-20 positions.   Continually evaluates the quality and accuracy of recordings anddocuments activities.  Recognizes need tovary positioning and recording procedures based on initial recordings, patientresponse and diagnostic goal.

  2. Recognizes,monitors, and/or eliminates electrode artifacts.

  3. EnhancesEEG abnormalities by implementing alternative nonstandard montages and machinesettings.

  4. Performsrouting activation procedures such as hyperventilation and photic stimulation.

  5. Hasknowledge of how various medical and pharmacological conditions affect the EEG.

  6. Recognizesconcerning events on the EEG and invasive recordings and alerts the appropriatemedical staff as soon as concerning event is recognized.

  7. Performsspecialized EEG procedures, adapting procedures to particular clinicalcircumstances.

  8. Performslong term inpatient video monitoring, both scalp and invasive.

  9. Understandclinical correlation of abnormal EEG patterns and how they pertain to variousdisease states.  Communicates appropriatequestions or questionable findings to appropriate clinical staff.

  10. Utilizescomputer averaging equipment to measure visual, brain stem auditory, andsomatosensory evoked responses.

  11. Reviewsrecordings obtained and prepares preliminary interpretation for physicianapproval.

  12. Observessanitation protocols and techniques pertaining to the cleaning of electrodes,work areas and equipment.  Properlycleans and adjusts EEG instrumentation.

  13. Records,inspects, and ensure proper maintenance of EEG and computer averagingmachinery.

  14. Trainslower level technologists and trainees on how to perform EEG and evokedpotential procedures. 

  15. Teachesassigned residents in EEG procedures.

  16. Performsother duties as required or assigned.

  • Associates degree required.
  • Four (4) years of experience in EEGtesting in both outpatient and inpatient environment.

  • One (1) year of experience in video EEGmonitoring.

  • Maturity and ability to establish goodrapport with patients, public and staff.

  • Capacity to deal with severely illpatients.

  • ABRET CLTM credential preferred.

RequiredLicensure/Certification Skills:

  • ABRET (American Board of Registration ofElectroencephalogy and Evoked Potential Technologists) R. EEG T. credential.

  • BLS Certification.
  • Currently registered inthe state of New Hampshire as a Medical Technician.*

*Thestate of New Hampshire requires that this position be registered as a MedicalTechnician per NH RSA 328-1.  If notcurrently registered, the candidate must be willing to obtain registrationprior to beginning employment.  D-H willprovide assistance (including payment of fees) in obtaining registration.
