Traffic Designer

Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising Charleston, WV (Onsite) Full-Time

Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Traffic Designer, we'll count on you to:

  1. Work in a collaborative effort with a team on both design and study-type assignments.
  2. Work on diverse projects under the direction of senior traffic engineers and transportation planners.
  3. Prepare traffic signals, signing, pavement markings, lighting, ITS, and temporary traffic control contract plans and specifications.
  4. Handle projects that vary in complexity from small bridge replacements to streetscapes to large interstate or interchange reconstruction.
  5. Conduct traffic study assignments including operational analysis using various software packages (HCS, Synchro, VISSIM, etc.); safety and crash mitigation studies; intersection and interstate studies; and report preparation.
  6. Engage in transportation planning-type assignments which may include regional studies to identify alternatives for new or improved transportation systems.
  7. Conduct field work to collect data such as traffic counts, inventories, or field measurements.
  8. Perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field
  2. EIT or ability to obtain within 12 months
  3. Solid written and verbal communication skills
  4. Ability to multi-task while working on multiple projects at once
  5. A constructive attitude and commitment to being an active participant in our employee-owned culture

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Master's preferred
  2. Experience with CAD Software (Open Roads) packages, ArcGIS, HCS, Synchro, VISSIM, GuidSign, or SignCAD
  3. WVDOT or PennDOT experience
  4. Strong preference is given to local candidates
