Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION


The Equipment and Automation Senior Engineer provides equipment and automation technical support to sales force, Corporate technical/Sales staff, customers and equipment group. This position maintains technical equipment knowledge and reviews quotes for technical accuracy. Communicates and trains others on technical changes, product improvements, and industry requirements. 


The successful candidate will work with purchasing on pricing, standardizing equipment, vendor selection and management as well as develop, design, engineer, test, and implement automation solutions and standard offerings working with R&D, Technical Service, Corporate Sales and field Sales.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide technical support to inside personnel, sales force and customers on equipment selection, feed and control methods, pricing and troubleshooting of equipment issues

  • Based on VOC from Corporate, Technical and Field Sales and working with R&D develop, design, engineer, test, and implement automation solutions and standard packages to address growing competitive pressure from the main competitors use of automated solutions. 

  • Answer incoming plane calls through ACD and emails to the ETS mail box 

  • Obtain training on existing and new equipment and pass knowledge to other departments 

  • Provide equipment expertise and guidance to equipment department members to raise the overall knowledge base of the group

  • Work with purchasing to provide input to existing and future vendor evaluation, selection for non-standard equipment and review and testing of new equipment

  • Obtain training on existing and new equipment and pass knowledge to other departments.

  • Design custom equipment systems either through bid specs or based on customer needs and manage equipment projects from design phase through commissioning.

SUPPLEMENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Market equipment technologies and products through internal groups and supplier relationships 

  • Provides ETS support, input and guidance for departmental projects and equipment system or component issue resolution and establishing standardized equip. packages 

  • Provide back-up to rotation equipment scheduling, inventory and literature management 

  • Assist with new sales representative orientation and new employee training 

  • Serve as a strategic member 

  • Other duties as assigned.



Qualifications

  • College degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field and minimum 8 years’ experience in Water Treatment
  • Experience in equipment design and engineering, field installation, maintenance, or equivalent related field 
  • Direct experience with automation, instrumentation, pumps, liquid storage and delivery systems
  • Technical knowledge of water treatment equipment applications for food, power, refining, chemical, paper or similar industrial fields.
  • PE preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 
  • Constantly required to sit and occasionally required to walk, stand, climb (includes stairs), balance, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch or crawl, and talk, hear, and smell
  • Constantly using hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, and computer keyboards. 
  • Routinely required to reach with hands and arms, squat, turn/twist, or reach, lift, carry, push, or pull up to 70 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

WORKING CONDITIONS & ENVIRONMENT 
  • Up to 50% travel to off-site plant, customers, or supplier sites
  • Required to wear all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for deliveries which may include: eye, hearing and respiratory protection, protective apron, steel toe shoes, gloves, hard hats, or face shields.
  • Occasionally in extreme heat conditions
  • Required to use ear plugs for hearing protection 
  • Both Indoor and outdoor sites may have high noise levels
  • Site location may be at a boiler house 
  • Outdoor site can be located at a cooling tower, water plant, wastewater plant, or a process area. 
  • Use of hazardous chemicals is routine.
  • Some equipment lifting and working with electrical, plumbing and chemicals.
  • Collaborative working environment working; position touches all levels within the customer organization
