Senior Radio Frequency (RF) Scientist

Job Summary: 

 

Serve as the senior advisor on all radio frequency (RF) engineering projects, and innovation initiatives to help ensure engineering solutions and products are technically sound and leading the industry. Manage internal research and development process, advising Program Director – Dahlgren (PD-D) and VP Engineering (VPE) on the strategic implications of innovation investment. Maintain technology awareness across the RF market space to ensure the Engineering Business Unit remains competitive and relevant.  Works closely with PD-D, VPE and the Business Development staff to leverage RF engineering capabilities to capture new business opportunities. This position is responsible for establishing the benchmark for technical achievement across the Engineering Business Unit, providing broad technical oversight to ongoing RF projects, as well as, research & development (R&D) initiatives.  Will lead the implementation of the RF R&D management process, with an emphasis on innovation. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

 

  • Responsible for establishing company’s strategic RF R&D roadmap and to provide exemplary scientific/engineering input into company’s research and development programs in order to support the overall corporate strategy set by the executive leadership team. 
  • Provide technical and strategic direction to the development team for the actual implementation of ideas and concepts generated. 
  • Provide direction in complex problem solving situation and participate in direct interaction with engineers as required. 
  • Act as liaison for internal and external communications directly with customers as required. Provide regular status reports and gather requirements from engineers and provide input into the products that are created and built. 
  • Provide technical proposal input by developing winning solutions through collaboration with engineers and working with proposal staff to fully articulate products, services, methodologies and approaches that meet customer requirements. 
  • To provide other members of Senior Staff with continuous scientific input in the areas of business development, technology development and commercialization, regulatory matters, manufacturing processes and initiatives. 
  • Other duties that may be assigned to meet company and departmental goals and objectives 


 

Minimum Qualifications: 

 

  • MS degree in a technical field 
  • 20 years of experience 
  • Ability to solve complex technical issues in a short period of time 
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and documentation skills 
  • Strong organizational skills 
  • Ability to lead projects and build consensus amongst a broad team 
  • Strong leadership skills and able to drive results 
  • Strong networking skills with experts in the academia & industry: solid record of maintaining and developing successful relationships with thought leaders and principal investigators in various areas of R&D 
  • Fiscal responsibility: ability to facilitate commercial return from research and development investments 
  • Strong ability to multi-task and to handle multiple programs and portfolios in research and development 
  • Strong conceptual thinking and innovative skills and ability to integrate input from diverse fields of research and development 
  • Leadership & mentoring capabilities and strong interpersonal skills 
  • Strong communication and public presentation skills 
  • Maturity in managing a large group of individuals in a collaborative environment and in matrix team structure
