The Corp Controller/Director of Finance is accountable for ensuring consistent, high-quality financial services, i.e. accounting, financial analysis, tax reporting, treasury, insurance and investment management for Connecticut Children's and Affiliates. The Corp Controller/Director of Finance develops staff members to their professional potential, fosters teamwork among the Finance staff and their customers. The Corp Controller/Director of Finance will delegate responsibility, as appropriate, and foster a performance based culture.


Lead accounting practices. Develop and ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures. Ensure maintenance of appropriate internal financial controls.

Leads development of financial statements, balance sheets, profit/loss statements, and variance reporting/analysis. Serves as a resource to the CFO for report validation, troubleshooting and Q&A. Oversight of the audit process and tax filing.

Collaborates with external auditors and business partners to complete audits timely and in line with GAAP. Confers with CFO on proper representation for internal reporting purposes, along with committee materials as needed. Leads communication of results with peers, management, leadership, committee and boards, and is standing representative at CCMC finance committee and supports materials needed for Board and leadership meetings.

Supports 5 year planning and budget team in operational and capital budget process, and quarterly projection process (R&O) to ensure deliverables meet organizational needs and accurately reflect organizational results, as well as annual deliverables (budget plans) for Connecticut Children's and subsidiaries.

Provides expertise, projection and budgeting for key areas including malpractice, depreciation, medical claims, and other third party reserves and balance sheet items.

Provides insights to foundation funding streams, debt repayment, Medicaid remittance timing and other key cash drivers.

Supports proforma development with insights to costs and accurate data produced from the accounting system, and provides collaboration with FP&A and decision support to make accurate allocations.

Leads development financial reporting, variance analysis, trending and action plans in collaboration with FP&A. Craft and distribute reports to management on a reliable, scheduled and timely basis. Collaborates with management reporting and data reporting areas to ensure Quality of reporting.

Recommends technology upgrades and vendor engagements to integrate financial systems and improve organizational accountability and controls.

Represent finance in ERP and other system upgrades/ development and integration. Participate in upgrade of financial information systems, playing an active role in system-wide task forces.

Focus on performance improvement activities, oversight and control of the Accounting, Payroll and Accounts Payable treasury and investment functions.

Directs preparation of external reports for government agencies and external auditors and oversees preparation of internal financial reports and analysis as appropriate. Key resource to the CFO, CCSG CFO and finance team.

Reconcile inter-company financial transactions, including receivables and payables. Ensure appropriate results by entity, service line and other distinctions as necessary.

Organize training materials and sessions to grow financial acumen across the company.

Monitor and manage cash flow and bank balances, making decisions or recommendations regarding fund transfers and ensuring effective utilization of cash balances. Ensure oversight of wires and other transfers.

Move organization to leverage purchase cards and other electronic efficiencies with financial improvements.

Manages relationships with rating agencies, CHEFA, bond holders, banking, investment advisors, auditors, tax specialists, government agencies, etc


In collaboration with CFO and team, develop the operating budget for the Finance Department and approves expense allocations. Justify budget variances and flex budget, as needed, throughout the fiscal period.

Oversee performance of investment management firm and overall reporting of investment results. Collaborate with investment management firm and CFO in maintaining portfolio consistent with policy.

Oversee investment accounting, reporting and utilization of special purpose funds.

Provide key information to surveys and other responses as assigned, including the CHA benchmarking led by Goldman Sachs.

Lead accounting, oversight and reporting of offshore malpractice company.

Collaborate with other partners in the system, including CHDI, Children's Fund and OCCH to support teams and coordinate reporting.

Lead efforts to innovate reporting and ensure accurate, timely and actionable information is delivered from our accounting systems to operational leaders, and reporting packages are insightful into organizational performance drivers.

Work closely with business, finance and operational partners to deliver the right information to the appropriate audiences.

Recruit, select, orient and train new team members. Manage and develop team to ensure high engagement and capabilities.


Oversees accounting, payroll and accounts payable, treasury and investment functions as CFO requires while supporting Revenue Cycle, HR, IT, FP&A, decision support and CCSG finance functions as key financial business partners.

Ensure that all team members develop written annual performance plans and provide ongoing feedback and coaching to each team member regarding progress and staff engagement.

Establish and communicate a vision for the department, which supports Connecticut Children's mission and goals.

Hold team members accountable for outcomes and continuous quality improvement and performance culture.

Seek out and provide opportunities for timely and appropriate individual staff development.

Recruit, select, and orient new team members.

Foster teamwork by providing an infrastructure for team participation and coaching on group decision making and other team dynamics.

Participate actively in the Connecticut Children's Leadership Team, contributing ideas, opinions, and participating in group decision making.

Lead coaching, mentoring and development of finance team, as well as building overall organizational financial acumen.

Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting required, Master's degree in Finance or Accounting preferred. CPA preferred.

Minimum 10 years progressive experience in financial management with at least 5 years in healthcare; with experience in healthcare systems and/or managed care environment a plus. Experience with grant, foundation and investment accounting also a plus.


Demonstrated leadership in accounting, treasury, investments, payroll, AP and malpractice management required. Working knowledge of Connecticut regulations and reimbursement structures strongly preferred.

Champion the beneficial needs and promote the services of Connecticut Children's to the Community through leadership and visibility in community events.

Demonstrates support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors that are consistent with Connecticut Children's standards
