The Director, Global Trade Compliance, Life Sciences (LS) Platform is primarily responsible for developing, executing, and managing export and import trade compliance program across seven operating companies (OpCos) within the LS Platform globally.  The Director will be working with the LS Platform VP, Legal & General Counsel and DHR Director, Global Trade Compliance to execute strategic direction and global management of all aspects of the LS Platform’s trade compliance program, including combining multiple trade compliance teams into a single Platform-wide organization.  Responsibilities include overseeing all aspects of import/export compliance, customs valuations, Free Trade Agreements and trade compliance operations, managing the Platform trade compliance team, implementing Danaher-wide trade initiatives, advising general managers and senior executives about trade compliance matters, overseeing all trade compliance activities for the LS Platform and working collaboratively with all OpCos, Business Units and functions to ensure effective implementation of trade compliance requirements and internal controls throughout the organization.
  • Global Trade Compliance Strategic Leadership:
  • Implements and manages the LS Platform Global Trade Compliance organization to ensure all Platform OpCo’s are compliant with domestic and foreign trade compliance requirements. 
  • Develops and deploys Trade Compliance programs and procedures on import and export, customs valuations, free trade agreements and other regulatory compliance requirements. 
  • Ensures legal compliance with trade laws and regulations, including appropriate licensing for shipments. 
  • Government Enforcement:
  •  Analyzes and interprets requirements for compliance as they relate to: 
  • Export Administration Regulations (EAR) of the U.S. Department of Commerce Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS); 
  • U.S. Treasury Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC);
  • International Traffic and Arms Regulations (ITAR) of the U.S. Department of State; 
  • EU, U.S. Customs and other applicable Government Agency rules and regulations.
  • Provides training on government laws and regulations, as well as Trade Compliance policies and procedures, to existing associates and new hires. 
  • Reviews, responds to, and escalates as necessary all government inquiries related to trade compliance.
  • Manages internal and external audits and disclosures. 
  • Provides consultation to business units, global subsidiaries, sales, procurement, project managers, order management, etc. and resolves matters pertaining to export/import transactions and International Trade Sanctions to ensure compliance with all applicable U.S. laws and regulations, as well as local country laws. 
  • Import/Export:
  • Manages all international export/import requirements globally. 
  • Ensures OpCo’s policies conform to Corporate Import and Export Policies. 
  • Manages self-testing of Platform’s OpCo’s export/import compliance programs.
  • Customs Valuations:
  • Serves as the resident expert on customs valuation across all OpCo’s within the LS Platform globally.
  • Works closely with Transfer Pricing and Finance teams regarding Transfer Pricing/Customs valuation methodology, Transfer Pricing adjustments/changes, and statutory additions to value compliance (assists, royalties, etc.).
  • Develops global processes for identifying, quantifying and declaring transfer pricing adjustments world-wide.
  • Develops global processes for identifying, quantifying and declaring applicable statutory additions to value (assists, etc.) world-wide.
  • Reviews, analyzes, documents and maintains rulings, formal decisions and other documents supporting customs valuation decisions.
  • Develops effective customs valuation decisions, methodologies, and defense arguments globally.


  • Manages Trade Compliance Team 
    Builds the global Trade Compliance Team, leading a reorganization of the subsidiaries reporting into him/her in a matrixed environment.
    Oversees and provides guidance to the trade compliance team in all day-to-day matters, including customer and transaction screenings, ECCN and HTS classifications, end-use/user restrictions, sanctions, export license determinations, drafting license applications, product qualification for preferential duty treatment under FTAs, customs broker management, antidumping/countervailing duties, and export compliance matters. 
    Consults with trade compliance and legal teams and external counsel as needed to resolve difficult legal compliance issues.
    BS or BA degree and a minimum of 15+ years trade compliance administration experience
    7+ years managerial experience.
