The position is focused on the Mechanical Engineering discipline and applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields, This position will be a mid to high level engineer in the Mechanical Engineering Section of the Gas Compression Engineering Department. The successful candidate will act as a gas systems design/project engineer with knowledge of applicable mechanical codes, standards, practices, design, and analysis methods. Experience should include gas compression facilities and equipment, writing technical specifications, and performing bid evaluations for equipment, consulting, and construction services.
Provide engineering design for the successful execution of projects supporting the client's gas compression facilities applying advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of the mechanical engineering discipline and related sciences. Lead project teams, including coordination of vendors, suppliers, engineers and construction contractors in the areas of Safety, Quality, Cost and Delivery. Analyze facility operating problems, making independent decisions on engineering problems and methods, and representing the organization in meetings to resolve important issues.
Preferred Knowledge of Tools/Software/Codes Tools/Software: CAESARII, Mathcad, ANSYS Codes: Michigan Gas Safety Standard, ASME, API, NFPA
Duties and who this individual reports to will fluctuate between projects, Practice Areas, and offices. Individual possesses the skills lead, problem solve, and work well in a team environment. Individual should exemplify safe work practices and follow the company's compliance standards.
Lead and/or assist with engineering projects to include design, plans, inspections, system planning, specifications, reports, maps, environmental impacts, permits, contracts, schedules, estimates, surveying, easements, data collection, construction observation, and field investigation.
Provide engineering services with accuracy, integrating all applicable governmental and company laws, standards and procedures on time and under budget. Use computer assisted engineering, design, and drafting software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.
Understand and follow company established standard procedures for file structure and standard drawing procedures for projects Become familiar with plans and specifications, maps, and related material for each project and be able to utilize the information appropriately.
Assists in client contact and communication. Utilize effective oral and written communication skills to provide technical expertise to coworkers, clients, customers, government entities and the public. Public involvement may include producing reports, graphics, presentations, and other visual material as well as occasional speaking or meeting with stakeholders. Attend internal and external meetings.
Provide all engineering services in a legal and ethical manner. Resolve all customer complaints in a timely manner. Serve as onsite project representative. Reviews operating and construction sites to monitor progress and other duties per the design documents.
Mechanical Engineering Design
Gas Compression Facility Experience (preferred)
The willingness to travel in-state and out of state is a must.
Successful candidate may be required to travel routinely to various natural gas compression station sites, and other company business locations throughout the State of Michigan.
Demonstrated experience working in a field construction environment are required
Gas system specific experience including knowledge of MGSS and other applicable codes will set the candidate apart.
Demonstrated experience performing mechanical equipment failure investigations and root cause analysis.
Demonstrated ability to conduct effective written and verbal communication to carry a project from investigation phase to successful completion and closure
Demonstrated ability to manage outside engineering services and review design documents produced by the engineering firms and equipment/material suppliers
Demonstrated ability to apply project controls to ensure that project results meet requirements regarding cost, quality, schedule, and project charter.
Willingness and capability to climb some stairs and ladders to safely reach areas to gather data in support of engineering tasks.

The following will set you apart: Seven (7) years of Mechanical Engineering experience or 5 years with a professional engineering licensee or mechanical engineering graduate degree with commensurate experience in power plant and/or gas piping design Education
Requirements: Bachelor's Degree from a ABET accredited Engineering program (Mechanical Engineering preferred). Essential Functions Planning, design, construction, and maintenance of gas compressor stations.
