Job Description

Location:  Stuttgart, Arkansas                                                                           

Reporting to:  General Plant Manager

1.     Position Responsibilities

The Director, Operations – Facilities & Maintenance is responsible proactively directing all activities of the factory facilities and maintenance departments within the Lennox Commercial manufacturing site in in Stuttgart, Arkansas.  A 750,000 square foot facility with over 1,300 employees, the Stuttgart factory is the foundation of the Lennox North America Commercial Unitary HVAC business. This position will work directly with senior leaders to develop a preventative maintenance strategy that aligns with operations to capture factory productivity.  This position will also ensure all facilities and preventative maintenance is completed property and develop a preventative maintenance plan to ensure limited machine downtime. The Director, Operations – Facilities & Maintenance will also ensure machines and facilities are 100% operational and a culture of plant cleanliness is driven into all levels of the organization.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and implement (as necessary) preventive maintenance program(s) to drive / capture factory productivity.
  • Provide capital project support – contractor liaison, segmentation of work (internal vs. contract), interface with engineering, etc.
  • Analyze machine usage and develop action plans to address issues
  • Provide data-based recommendation for machines and facilities projects to improve productivity and/or enhance culture
  • Manage the hiring, direction, assessment and development of team members.
  • Create maintenance skills develop process to grow talent within the function
  • Champion the Commercial culture, driving an environment of accountability, open communication, and high ethical standards
  • Support the Vision and Mission statement of the Commercial business segment

2.     Key organizational relationships

The success of the Director, Operations – Facilities & Maintenance will be dictated largely by the effectiveness of their relationship with the following:

  • The Stuttgart General Plant Manager is the key business partner to the Director, Operations – Facilities & Maintenance and works in close and collaborative partnership to assess immediate, mid-term and long-range needs within the factory. Relies on this Director as a key confidant in making critical improvement decisions affecting the performance of the factory.
  • The Stuttgart Leadership Team meets throughout the month to determine the course of the business. This Director must have a strong working relationship with their peers on the Stuttgart Leadership Team to understand the direction of the business and how their priorities fit within that direction.  The Stuttgart Leadership Team consists of:
  • Directors of Operations – Assembly & Fabrication
  • Director, Engineering
  • Director, Factory Materials
  • Director, Quality
  • Director, Human Resources
  • Plant Controller
  • Manager, Safety & Environmental
  • Manager, IT

3. Success Criteria

The Director, Operations – Facilities & Maintenance is successful 3 Years from now if:

  • The Stuttgart factory shows year over year improvement in financials and a culture of continuous improvement in which all employees at every level are clearly engaged.
  • Preventive maintenance program effectively working and equipment downtime improves year over year
  • Culture of plant cleanliness at all levels  within the organization is developed
  • The Global Employee Survey shows significant improvement for both hourly and salaried employees in the key focus areas of the Manufacturing Culture, Communication, Leadership, and Ethics
  • The Plant has achieved its cost, quality and delivery targets

  • Significant experience with preventative maintenance programs, including maintenance software and implementations
  • Strong maintenance workflow analysis experience
  • Strong vendor management experience
  • Ability to develop capital project business cases and provide hands-on capital project support
  • Self-motivated, resourceful and entrepreneurial, demonstrating willingness for learning and improvement
  • Well-developed quantitative and qualitative analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Previous fabrication experience required and tool and die experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of Lean principles and previous Kaizen experience preferred
  • Skilled with the use of Microsoft and other business software applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SAP, etc.
  • At least 10 years of experience is durable goods manufacturing plants


  • Outstanding cross-functional leadership skills; viewed as credible by business unit/functional leaders
  • Able to motivate and lead teams to achieve goals.
  • Strong influencing and communication skills; capable of securing management buy-in, sponsorship and investment through strong articulation of business benefits aligned to broader organizational objectives


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or other related field, with an advanced degree preferred.
