Description

Under the direction and supervision of the Controller, the Staff Accountant maintains the general ledger and coordinates the maintenance of all sub-ledgers, including Cash, Payroll, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, and Inventory.  The Staff Accountant reports directly to the Controller and is responsible for the following:
Essential Functions (specific duties may vary by location):
  • Responsible for month end closing:
    • Process monthly journal entries.
    • Create and maintain documentation for all monthly closing accounting entries.
    • Process all monthly reporting out of the general ledger, including Balance Sheet and Income Statement.
    • Perform monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts to support schedules, and analysis of balance sheet accounts.
    • Ensure accuracy of A/R and A/P sub-ledgers through both reconciliation as well as account analysis.
    • Ensure complete accuracy of the trial balance, income statement, and balance sheet.
    • Prepare Monthly Actual to Budget variance analysis.
    • Perform analysis of any unusual variances in all accounts from historical run rates.
    • Perform analysis of any variances to budget, forecast, and prior year results.
    • Prepare monthly STATS reporting.
    • Perform other month end close processes as needed.
  • Prepare Quarterly STATS reporting.
  • Import and export associate payroll data. Reconcile payroll accounts.
  • Prepare and submit monthly state and/or federal taxes:  state business and occupation tax, property tax, income tax, payroll tax, etc.
  • Perform credit card reconciliations
  • Ensure that sales/product costing is completed and analyzed on a weekly (or bi-weekly) basis.
  • Ensure that account sub-ledgers are reconciled and analyzed on a weekly (or bi-weekly) basis
  • Prepare all documentation for internal audit, including account reconciliations, preparation of monthly close binders, process narratives, and account analyses.
  • Ensure GAAP compliance.
  • Participate in SOX and associated/related compliance/internal-control efforts.
  • Assist other accounting staff, as needed, in performing accounting functions and maintaining effective accounting processes.
  • Perform ad hoc reporting, as assigned.
  • Maintain fixed asset sub-ledger and prepare book and tax depreciation entries for all assets.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.
  • Position will require working on weekend during month-end close.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two (2) years professional accounting experience, preferably a manufacturing environment
  • Bachelors Degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills
  • Proficient in Oracle ERP
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite {expert in Excel}
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to operate effectively in a team environment.
  • Deadline-oriented with strong attention to detail and organizational skills
