Overview

Under the direct supervision of a Registered Pharmacist, the pharmacy technician assists in the daily operation of the Pharmacy.

Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist, prepares medication for dispensing.  Prepares medications for automated dispensing cabinets, 24-hour unit-dose cart fills, and initial doses. Replaces medications to floor stock and emergency carts, repackages bulk medications to unit dosage forms. Accurately prepares sterile products using proper aseptic technique under supervision of the pharmacist.   Complies with Federal and state regulations and hospital policy.  Distributes medication to nursing units or other patient care areas.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Graduate of ASHP-accredited or equivalent pharmacy technician training program preferred.

Previous pharmacy technician experience preferred.

Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) required or obtained within 6 months of hire date.
