Applied Resource Group is hiring for a passionate, detail-oriented Technical Writer to join the R&D team at the world’s fastest-growing Data Management software vendor. This person will help lead our client's transformation from an on premise model to a cloud-based community forum allowing written and video content to be blended together and as well as interactivity with the user community.

Position Overview

  • During the first month, you will come up to speed on our client's line of products and industry concepts. In addition, you’ll get familial with their development and design processes as well as the process of developing and publishing content in our new online support portal.
  • Within the first 2 months, you’ll be actively participating with their sprint teams in understanding and developing content for our upcoming product release.
  • Between 3 – 6 months, you will take over the maintenance of all existing production documentation (installation guides, online help, release notes, and programming guides).

Throughout the first year, you will:

  • Engage with product owners and subject-matter experts to fully understand not only the “hows” but also the “whys” of the product. Our cleint believse users are best served when they understand the broader context in addition to how to perform a specific task.
  • Work with the UX and UI designers to make sure fundamental blocking and tackling of a product is completed. All forms, pages, labels, and messages within the application are using proper grammar and punctuation.
  • Help blend together multimedia content from the video production with the written documentation to provide a more powerful learning experience for our customers.
  • Embrace learning and change by staying up-to-date on industry trends and tools for developing knowledge products.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Interview product owners, developers, UX designers, and QA engineers to gather all of the key knowledge about new and updated product features as the come off the design and development assembly line.
  • Help design our interview and draft review process to ensure optimum efficiency and timely delivery of content.
  • Maintain an information products (IP) backlog that will help to ensure documentation availability at the point the product is ready for release. Conduct a weekly backlog review with content experts and management to assess readiness of product and content as an ongoing part of the development phase.
  • Collaborate with the team and UX/UI specialist to ensure useful and intuitive labels, messages and other UI text.
  • Develop and oversee and Information Products standards guide to ensure consistency and continuity of content regardless of feature or book area.
  • Oversee the product content release lifecycle to ensure we’re properly securing versions of the content in our Microsoft DevOps source control system.
  • Meet one-on-one with your manager monthly to discuss challenges, interests, work/life balance, and any other aspects to help enhance and improve your working environment.
  • Ensure ongoing improvement of your processes and your peers’ processes by requesting and providing regular peer reviews to learn from their feedback and practices, implement agreed improvements and improve the work of others based on your perspectives and experiences

Candidate Requirements

  • A solid foundation for writing technical content for a range of audiences from high school to college educated.
  • Great with grammar and the appropriate voice and tense to be used in various situations.
  • Basic understanding of HTML technologies.
  • Have used one or more help authoring packages (e.g. RoboHelp, MadCap Flare, etc.)
  • Understand and have worked with Wiki technologies.
  • Comfortable in the Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Passion about the value of information products and want to provide the best content in our industry.
