Our Opportunity:

Chewy is looking for a Business Intelligence Engineer to serve as a hands-on technical subject matter expert who will contribute to our rapidly growing and continued success. This is a crucial role leading our journey to establish and mature capabilities across the pillars of insights and analytics, data science, business intelligence, and data enablement for the Operations Planning and Strategy Organization.

The ideal candidate has proven experience integrating and scaling data applications, strong technical problem-solving skills, and success in developing scalable data infrastructure to support business and analytics teams. The Operations Planning and Strategy team operates in a fast-paced environment where every day brings new challenges and new opportunities.

You will be responsible for designing and implementing solutions and technologies which will handle the growing business needs of our organization across all business functions. Along the way you will gain a broad knowledge of how all of the many pieces of Chewy work together to provide the level of service our customers have come to know and expect.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design and implement data solutions best-suited to deliver on our needs and use cases — from data lakes to analytics, and beyond across a progressively evolving technical stack.

  • Design, develop, optimize, and maintain data architecture and pipelines that adhere to ETL principles and business goals.

  • Solve complex data problems to deliver insights that helps our business to achieve their goals.

  • Create Proof of Concepts and advise, consult, mentor and coach other data and analytic professionals on data standards and practices.

  • Lead the evaluation, implementation and deployment of emerging tools and process for analytic data engineering to improve the value of the solutions we build.

  • Create data products by working with analytics and data scientist team members to speed to market and to enrich data and model options.

  • Develop and deliver communication and education plans on analytic data engineering capabilities, standards, and processes.

  • Code, test, and document new or modified data systems to create robust and scalable applications for data analytics.

  • Partner with Business Analysts and Solutions Architects to develop technical architectures for strategic enterprise projects and initiatives.

  • Provide on-line reporting and analysis using business intelligence tools and a logical abstraction layer against large, multi-dimensional datasets and multiple sources

  • Document technical details of your work using industry standard protocols like Jira, Confluence etc.

  • Proactively monitor existing metrics, propose new metrics, and work across the organization to make actionable intelligence

  • Produce comprehensive, usable data set documentation, metadata, BI reports, Dashboards, and insights.

What You’ll Need:

  • Deep expertise of core data platforms: Snowflake, AWS, Vertica, other RDB.

  • Knowledge of integration technologies such as AWS Data Migration Services, Azure DataFactory, Google DataProc or other data integration technologies.

  • Programming expertise in Java, Python, Scala, or another modern programming language.

  • Experience in mathematical modeling and linear programming, technical analysis and reporting, computer program design/development/testing preferred.

  • Strong working knowledge of SQL and the ability to write, debug, and optimize SQL queries.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience.

  • 4+ years of experience with detailed knowledge of BI data warehouse technical architectures, infrastructure components, ETL/ ELT and reporting/analytic tools.

  • 3+ years of work experience in building self-serve BI solutions, canned reports, and enterprise level BI solutions.

  • 3+ years of experience with data modeling in large Data warehousing, data lake environment

  • 4-year bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.

  • Knowledge of business intelligence technologies such as Tableau and Power BI.
