We are seeking a dynamic and motivated Engineering Co-op to join our team in either Rochester, NY or Franklin, MA for Summer 2019. This exciting opportunity offers the ability to provide customer-focused engineering support to internal and external customers in the automation industry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and develop software algorithms to support of customer solutions, collaborating with other software developers to produce code as appropriate
  • Aid in developing user interface software as a front-end to vision applications
  • Perform Lab Optic and Lighting Feasibility Studies
  • Perform Hardware Speed Testing for New Products and Customer Opportunities
  • Work closely with the mechanical design, automation, controls and field service engineering teams during all phases of development, build, testing and deployment to ensure trouble-free execution
  • Develop and provide appropriate training and documentation materials as required
  • Make enhancements to existing installed base solutions, including implementing changes to existing code that may have been developed by others
  • Work closely with customers in delivering and supporting applications, support bug fixing and troubleshooting activities
  • Attend in-office meetings as required, attend conference calls with team members, or in-office customer meetings in order to review the project status or the readiness for the application programming for an upcoming installation
  • Attend training or conferences as required for skilled training


Desire to:

  • How to program and configure Cognex, Keyence, Halcon, SICK, Microscan, National Instruments Vision Equipment
  • Learn related technologies such as lighting, lenses, cameras, and how/when to select the appropriate component for a solution
  • Programming and algorithm development in C#/.NET, and other scripting languages
  • Develop Code in IDE suites such as Microsoft Visual Studio Environment
  • Maintain source code control via Team Foundation Server and Git
  • Learn PLC Code: Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram, Structured Text, and Sequential Function Chart.

Skills & Abilities Essential to the Position:

  • Strong desire to learn about the products and industry to be able to apply product applications
  • Ability to think analytically and creatively problem-solve
  • Self-directed, motivated, and detail-oriented
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to self-learn in order to quickly adapt to customer needs either software or hardware
  • Ability to read and interpret specifications and plans to determine contract requirements

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift up to 25lbs
  • Able to pick-up material at floor level and  lift items above shoulder height
  • Able to stand or kneel for 10-20 minutes as required
  • Ability to walk or stand for extending periods of time
  • Able to carry equipment with or without a cart, including a laptop and a tool bag

Education:  Working toward Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or Computer Science, entering your Junior or Senior year in the fall of 2019.
