The mission of the Chief Portfolio Office is to provide a dynamic system of school models so that every student—in every school and every neighborhood—has access to a world-class learning experience from birth, resulting in graduation from high school college- and career-ready. The Executive Director of Access and Enrollment will support the Chief Portfolio Officer in realizing this mission.
The Executive Director of Access and Enrollment will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:

  • Manage the current application process (developing student selection policies and procedures) for students across CPS including magnet schools, selective enrollment schools, military schools, Career and Technical Education (CTE), as well as other school options for students and families;
  • Develop a long- and short-term plan for transitioning the district to a universal enrollment process for all school options available to CPS students and their families;
  • Identify and implement strategies designed to ensure equity of school access for all students;
  • Manage and implement a transition process—including organization redesign, development of new enrollment/assignment policies and procedures, internal and external communication—for moving to a universal enrollment process;
  • Manage a high-functioning team that makes continual strategic improvements to its work while maintaining standards of service and operations;
  • Direct parent counseling efforts regarding specific CPS academic schools and programs, as well as resolving families’ application, selection, and notification issues; .
  • Provide decision-making leadership for budget and federal grants, program monitoring and evaluation, application processes, special projects, and issues related to equity of school access;
  • Revise and enforce policies and procedures governing the application, selection, and notification processes for magnet schools, magnet cluster schools, gifted schools and programs, open enrollment schools, classical schools, International Baccalaureate programs, advanced placement programs, and selective enrollment schools;
  • Serve on committees and participate in projects at the request of the Chief Executive Officer and other senior administrators in order to develop and implement policies and procedures designed to increase efficiency, improve educational offerings, and address related areas of need;
  • Conduct parent and community presentations at day care centers, preschools, and parent and community organizations regarding the schools and programs available;
  • Perform other related duties, as necessary.

Type of Education Required:
  • Master’s degree in Education, Public Administration, Master’s of Business Administration, Urban Planning, or a related field preferred.

Type of Experience and Number of Years:
  • Experience with enrollment and/or admissions, preferably within a large urban district. A minimum of 3-5 years experience managing a high-functioning, operational team.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated track record of dynamic and effective results-oriented leadership, preferably in the education field;
  • Strong analytical skills, a high degree of intellectual curiosity, and the ability to engage with other senior leaders in addressing complex issues;
  • Familiarity with enrollment and admissions policies, procedures, and potential barriers to success
  • Ability to quickly develop strong professional and interpersonal relationships with integrity;
  • Strong strategic skills; able to turn diverse stakeholder perspectives into an actionable plan;
  • Outstanding leadership skills and prior experience building first-class teams;
  • Able to meet challenges head on and comfortable dealing with unexpected situations and uncertainty;
  • Unfailingly trustworthy, collaborative, and professional in all situations;
  • Positive spirit, energetic, fun to work with, with a deep personal connection to the value of public education; and
  • Approachable, creative, self-sufficient with an entrepreneurial spirit.

Residency Requirement: As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of his or her CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. ~cb~
