Job Description

Lead Production Technician-

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced or senior level Production Technician (operator) who aspires for a management role. These are newly created positions as Lead Production Technicians who will mentor under a seasoned manager that will allow you to grow into a supervisor within one of our manufacturing facilities. As a Lead Production Technician (Lead Production Operator) for Panduit, your motivation and team orientation will be instrumental as you demonstrate the highest level of accuracy and attention to detail while setting up and troubleshooting machines utilizing basic hand tools and various manufacturing machines.  You will work in an open environment, which is not only comfortable but that's also safe, as your safety is a top priority. Go to work every day knowing you will play a key role in manufacturing operations with each task that you perform.

As a Lead Production Technician, working out our Lockport, IL facility you will perform all Senior Production Technician responsibilities and is viewed as the subject matter expert - (SME), for all basic, intermediate and advanced processes, and equipment within the department.  Working towards a career path in Supervision/Leadership and actively taking management classes you will be performing team leader functions.  This will be a second shift role working 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm Monday through Friday (see our other posting if a 1st shift is your ONLY option) and also include occasional weekend site supervision acting as an extension of the supervisor providing work direction to team.  You will be self-motivated with a positive attitude and leads by example mentor.  Having a very high level of mechanical aptitude and ability for operating and troubleshooting all processes within the area will be also be required. 

Responsibilities are but not limited to:

  • Programming automation and manual processes, conduct testing trials on new materials, processes and equipment and works closely with engineering, Tool & Die and maintenance.
  • Ability to act as a supervisor when required. 
  • Set up & troubleshoot area machines and related production equipment and processes of advanced technologies.
  • Advance a work environment of teamwork and collaboration, focused on continuous improvement.  Communicate performance expectations, requirements and work direction to the team.  Actively involved in continuing leadership competency and lean leadership education.
  • Leads active involvement in the identification and elimination of waste associated with all area machines and related production equipment and processes of basic, intermediate and advanced technology.  Complete A3’s for improvement ideas and leads Kaizen events and other teams to help resolve issues

Skills required or preferred but not limited to:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, advanced degree preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with 5-7 years of related manufacturing experience
  • Understands all, specifically complex machines, assemblies, tools and processes, including their design uses, repair and maintenance; observes complex equipment operations, so that malfunctions and other abnormalities are detected. Ability to troubleshoot and adjust complex equipment, as needed.  Ability to modify and write programs.  Ability to run robotic equipment.  Picks up on technical and mechanical products and processes quickly.  Can learn new skills and knowledge; is adept at learning new industry, company, product or technical knowledge; operate equipment using hand/eye coordination.
  •  Ability to solve advanced arithmetic problems including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole numbers, decimals and fractions.  Ability to solve complex numerical problems utilizing graphs, charts, conversions and ratios.  Ability to calculate complex formulas and plot data.  Understand complex concepts of units of measurement: units, length, volume, and weight.  Must be capable of completing business calculations using a calculator and standard measuring tools.  Identifies the accuracy and completeness of complex data.  Able to create appropriate complex data to make corrections or resolve the problem.  Ability to prioritize complex job orders based on quantities to be produced, production time, product specifications, colors and sequences.
  • Requires the exercise of constant judgment and thinking to solve problems in circumstances where there is often little guidance available from established practices and precedents.
  • Work is almost entirely non-routine.  It continually requires the exercise of considerable judgment with relatively little guidance from defined policy guidelines.  Creative thinking is a regular feature of the work.  Only general policy direction is given, with little or no supervision
