Assistant or Associate Professor of Interior Architecture
Chatham University is looking for qualified faculty to join our Interior Architecture program. The position will be filled at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.
Founded in 1869, Chatham University is an all-gender institution with an enrollment of over 2,200 students and over 60 undergraduate and graduate programs in our areas of excellence: sustainability; health & lab sciences; business & communication; and the arts & humanities. The Interior Architecture Programs are offered at the undergraduate and graduate levels and feature two CIDA accredited programs.

Our Interior Architecture programs feature a well-rounded design education that features three pillars of focus: Sustainability, Social Justice and Universal Design. We are looking for this position to contribute to course development, research and project development, and student mentorship. Faculty for the program will be expected to work with faculty from other departments and industry partners to explore expanded applications for interior design.

Position Summary:
This nine-month, tenure track position includes advising students, University service, professional, creative work and/or research and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, in the field of interior design. Candidates are expected to either carry out research or work on meaningful professional work in a manner that encourages student involvement and contributes to the overall elevation of the disciple and programs. Faculty in the department will be expected to maintain and foster relationships with industry partners, attend industry conferences and events representing the university, and contribute to the local interior design community.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* This position is responsible for teaching as well as collaborating on continual development of the curriculum and course development for the Interior Architecture Programs.
* It is imperative that the candidate is comfortable networking with industry & academic colleagues, including conference attendance, talks/lectures and attending academic & industry events.
* It is expected that the candidate participates in departmental meetings, university trainings and other duties as assigned.
* It is also expected that the candidate fully participates in admissions related activities including recruitment.
* It is expected that the candidate contributes to the CIDA accreditation process including archiving student work.
* Candidate will assess student learning outcome achievement and incorporate results into discipline appropriate course planning and professional development activities.
* Participate in course, curriculum, and program assessment activities in each of the Interior Architecture Programs.
Required Qualifications:
* CIDA/FIDER accredited interior design degree.
* Active National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) certification or ability to achieve NCIDQ certification within 6 months of employment is required.
* A Master's degree or PhD is required.
* Robust scholarly agenda and publications or healthy, active interior design practice
* A successful candidate will have a demonstrated positive attitude with a drive for continuous improvement both professionally and personally.
* A successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to effectively and collaboratively work on a team.
* A successful candidate is expected to have at least 3 years' experience in teaching design studios and/or core interior design courses and at least four years of professional interior design experience.
* A successful candidate should also have a demonstrated ability to support and contribute to a collegial and collaborative working environment in addition to possessing effective communication skills.
* Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office programs.
* Must be self-motivated with a high degree of accountability and integrity.
* Must have a proven record of accomplishment of leading initiatives or projects from start to finish.
* Must be comfortable taking on a degree of administrative type work such as assessment and other quality and performance improvement projects.
Desired Qualifications:
* Teaching experience in higher education, with list of courses taught and teaching scores.
* Professional portfolio.
* Board member or equivalent for an academic or professional interior design organization.
* Experience with human centered design.
* Experience with immersive technologies.
* Experience with graphic design and associated software and applying them to interior design.
* Experience with Healthcare design.
* Candidates with a combination of academic and practical experience are particularly encouraged to apply.
