Mobile solutions developed by this team are transforming the use of technology inside cockpit and helping crew members better manage their quality-of-life.

Key Responsibilities:

The Senior Manager, IT Application Development will lead/direct employees in the modernization, integration, implementation, and maintenance of critically important employee-facing products. The position will advise the business on IT solutions that will best help them grow and perform more efficiently. The position will work though the entire lifecycle, outlining the most effective resources and oversee projects through design, development to completion. The position will provide strategic IT guidance and road-mapping for employee facing technology portfolio.

Product Delivery and Support:

  • Responsible for delivery of large programs and continuous improvement initiatives within the web and mobile channels

  • Collaborate with developers, cross-functional digital technology teams and business users to design, develop, and integrate user interfaces and services that meet business needs

  • Contribute to the team effort by accomplishing project tasks on schedule and by interacting and mentoring junior and senior team members

  • Collaborate with network, security, end user services, common services, and other IT stakeholders to assist with ensuring adherence to standards, IT security, enterprise architecture and integration considerations

  • Provide effective leadership, motivation and mentoring to develop team members on managing 3rd party vendor hosted solutions, various phases of the software development life cycle, oversight of resources located locally and remotely, and adherence to United Airlines standards for security, platform, and performance

  • Play a key role in formulating and following the procedures for test driven development

  • Leads the planning and daily operations of assigned set of applications and systems

  • Guide team on facilitating investigation of production outages/problems and the subsequent restoration of service; ensure determination of root cause with plans for remediation; escalation points for application/system production outages

  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of technologies and architectures used to support assigned set of applications and systems

  • Ensure IT application development process disciplines (solution delivery, project management, work requests, QA, etc.) and standards are established, effectively managed, and performed

Leadership:

  • Build and maintain relationships with business partners by providing a team of subject matter experts and leadership to collaborate with a matrixed team of functional and technical resources across the organization to deliver value added services and solutions

  • Provide leadership and guidance to team and IT support groups to ensure business and technical requirements are met and the finished product is delivered to the customer per schedule and budget

  • Reports to senior leadership on key performance indicators for departmental initiatives and on the health of the projects under their supervision

  • Lead team members and collaborate with business units to execute on application roadmap

  • Influence and motivate members of their peer group to better managerial and leadership practices

  • Conduct performance reviews, coaching, identifying training and development requirements and plans

  • Demonstrate business skills with the ability to effectively negotiate priorities across multiple groups/teams

  • Accountable for administrative management of 1-5 IT professionals as direct reports HR administration, Time Reporting, etc.

Qualifications

Whats needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Business Administration

  • 7 years of professional experience in systems implementation with at least 5 years experience with business partner systems

  • 5 years of professional experience in the management of operational critical, complex systems supported by large and diverse technical staff including integration of legacy technologies, multi-platform hardware and software and security

  • At least 3-5 years of leadership experience in managing multiple, large, cross-functional teams or projects and influencing senior level management and key stakeholders

  • Requires advanced technical and business knowledge in software development life cycle, quality assurance, project management and other related disciplines/processes

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with partner teams and customers, translating requirements into a product vision and roadmap

  • 12 months experience of Agile development; multi-task and effectively manage multiple projects, competing priorities and adeptly re-prioritize based on changing needs

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):

  • MS in Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Systems, or other related field

  • Airline Experience is a plus
