Security Manager

Responsible for supervising all activities of property Security Department Staff.  This is working position where the Security Department Manager must work alongside the Security Department Staff to insure that assigned duties and responsibilities are being accomplished in a timely and professional manner.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Complete and/or review the staff’s completion of the following documents, check for accuracy, approve, process and/or maintain filing systems in accordance with Company policy:
  • Monitor employee staff time keeping procedure, complete staff timesheets, maintain staff employment documents, complete staff scheduling to meet requirements of facility
  • Review and correct Incident Reports as required
  • Provide state required training, documentation and licensing for facility and staff
  • Periodic inspections of life/safety equipment including elevators, escalators, fire sprinkler equipment, fire panels and emergency supply kits
  • Administer projects and due dates to insure satisfactory completion and compliance with deadlines and enforce Company policy and procedure
  • Select, train and evaluate staff personnel and initiate disciplinary action, including termination if warranted, as needed
  • Conduct new staff member orientation including Company policies and procedures
  • Complete quarterly safety inspections
  • Provide ongoing employee training as required to meet facility and state requirements
  • Periodic inspections surveillance equipment
  • Periodic inspections of Security Department vehicles
  • Program property access control devices including card access systems and stand alone key pads, monitor automatic locking devices for functionality
  • Coordinate scheduling, work activity and special details with law enforcement agencies
  • Provide visual and verbal evidence to law enforcement agencies regarding criminal activity investigations
  • Receive, analyze and respond to tenant and customer complaints
  • Maintain close working relationship with other department managers and employees
  • Provide accurate and timely information about unusual incidents to the Property General Manager and complete duties and tasks assigned by the Property General Manager

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Working alongside Security Department employees while completing the following duties:

  • Supervise, schedule, evaluate and provide hands-on instruction and job performance recommendations for the property Security Department Staff
  • Make daily inspections of the property, including parking areas and pad site facilities
  • Monitor incidents, review incident reports and correct as needed, serve as immediate contact for emergency situations involving security related issues
  • Provide ongoing staff training regarding emergency situations, fire alarms, safety issues, medical emergencies and other incidents, including criminal activity
  • Monitor surveillance and fire alarm equipment and supervise repairs and upgrades as authorized
  • Insure that dispatch logs, criminal trespass files, fire riser room inspection logs, vehicle inspection logs and other security associated paperwork are up to date and being utilized
  • Review surveillance tape and cameras as needed to insure that they are working properly and are being utilized in an effective and professional manner by Security Department Staff
  • Insure that supplies, repairs to equipment and support are available for the Security Department Staff
  • Evaluate Security Department Staff work performance and resolve problems and make recommendations as needed
  • Insure that the Dispatch Center and Security Office are kept clean and free of hazards
  • Communicate information to property management as related to any unusual activity  

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)
  • Thorough knowledge of all emergency equipment, including but not limited to fire alarm systems, fire pumps, access systems, water risers, cutoff valves and electrical circuits
  • Advanced customer service skills to diplomatically communicate with customers
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work efficiently; excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to listen, communicate (written and verbal), excellent grammar, spelling and proof reading skills and follow-up effectively with all staffing levels and clients/customers
  • Ability to work independently, self-starter, energetic 
  • Ability to demonstrate good common sense and sound judgment
  • Ability to perform at high levels in a fast paced ever-changing work environment   
  • Ability to anticipate work needs and follow through with minimum direction

  Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required
  • 5+ years of related experience
  • Prior experience in law enforcement, military and/or security preferred
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • DPS Non-Commission Security License  
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen
  • Employee must have reliable transportation to and from work each day
