Description
Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm. Additional hours, including weekends and holidays may be required.
A professional position responsible for applying the principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports by compiling information, preparing profit and loss statements, and utilizing appropriate accounting control procedures.
Example Of Duties
Essential FUNCTIONS AND DUTIESinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned as dictated by operational necessity.
• Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, and document business transactions.
• Establish, maintain, and coordinate the implementation of accounting and accounting control procedures.
• Manage daily banking, complete monthly reconciliations, prepare monthly entries to distribute interest income and banking charges, prepare wire transfers as needed.
• Monitor and review accounting and related system reports for accuracy and completeness.
• Prepare and/or review budget, revenue, expense, payroll entries, invoices, and other accounting documents.
. Post approved and reviewed transactions.
• Resolve accounting discrepancies.
• Recommend, develop and maintain financial data bases, computer software systems and manual filing systems.
• Supervise the input and handling of financial data and reports for the company's automated financial systems.
• Interact with internal and external auditors in completing audits.
• Explain billing invoices and accounting policies to staff, vendors and clients.
• Analyze and review budgets and expenditures for local, state, federal, and private funding.
• Analyze revenue and expenditure trends and recommend appropriate budget levels and ensure expenditure control.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of public finance, budgeting, and accounting.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of computerized financial information management.
• Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws, city ordinances, and department policies and procedures.
• Skill in utilizing financial computer software programs.
• Skill in operating office equipment such as a computer and calculator.
• Skill in oral and written communication.
• Able to communicate orally with other employees and the public in face-to-face one-on-one settings or using a telephone.
• Able to make arithmetic calculations (add, subtract, multiply, divide, and use percentages and averages) accurately and rapidly.
• Able to produce clear and accurate documents and reports using proper business English sentence structure, grammar, and punctuation.
• Able to observe, compare, or monitor data to determine the accuracy of financial records.
• Able to analyze and evaluate accounting problems and prepare reports and statements pertinent to accounting and related data.
• Able to work cooperatively with other City employees and the public.
• Able to enter data or information into a terminal, PC, or other keyboard device to utilize word processing or electronic spreadsheet software.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
• Four-year college degree in accounting or related field preferred; and,
• Five (5) years of highly complex accounting experience required; and,
• Minimum three (3) years of governmental accounting experience required; or three (3) years of experience in a private accounting firm conducting audits of governmental agencies.
• CPA certification highly desirable, but not required.
• Central Square software experience highly desirable, but not required
