Our Optum Consulting Medicare Resource Group (MRG) is seeking an experienced consultant to assist in the development of innovative and efficient actuarial and analytical models in support of client needs. Key skills for success include strong SAS and/or Excel VBA knowledge, ability to manipulate large data sets, data analysis, modeling, effective communication of findings, problem-solving, and team leadership. The position offers the opportunity to proactively develop software tools and data analysis models in a fast moving and dynamic team environment.

While specific responsibilities will vary based on the needs of the MRG and the Optum Consulting team, representative duties include:

Examine existing models and code sets for errors and inefficiencies

Provide innovative support for the appropriate configuration and manipulation of large data sets in a standardized data repository environment

Establish code in support of MRG (actuarial) staff

Provide clear communication regarding both identified problems and potential solutions

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Designing, supporting, and enhancing a comprehensive suite of actuarial models and tools that will be sold to external customers

  • Training consultants on the various uses and capabilities of the tool suite

  • Receiving feedback from consultants and clients for the purpose of improving products and establishing ideas for future business opportunities for Optum

  • Overseeing and guiding project research and analytics including, but not limited to, Medicare claims data analytics and advanced modeling and analytical techniques

  • Interpreting research and data analytics into practical answers to broader policy questions as they relate to the specific content area

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Experience programming and/or developing tools in SAS, SQL, and/or VBA

  • Expertise in quantitative and analytical problem-solving and/or modeling methodologies and their applications to research questions

  • Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential job function of this role. Candidates located in states that mandate COVID-19 booster doses must also comply with those state requirements. Preferred Qualifications:

  • Be on the Actuarial exam track, having passed 2 or more Actuarial exams

  • Experience analyzing Medicare / Medicaid claims data

  • Experience developing financial models in Excel, using VBA and XML

  • Currently residing in one of the following locations: Colorado Springs, CO, Dallas, TX, Hartford, CT, Pittsburgh, PA, Boulder, CO, Houston, TX, Nashville, TN, Tampa, FL, Eden Prairie, MN, Phoenix, AZ, St. Louis, MO

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $66,100 to $118,300. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $72,800 to $129,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
