We are seeking a Health Consultant to join the East Region. This position is be located in the Atlanta office.

The Opportunity:

The Health Consultant is integral to supporting the delivery of a broad and diverse range of group health and welfare benefits consulting services to our clients. The Segal health practice serves clients in the Public Sector, Multi-Employer, and Corporate markets. This role will focus primarily on public sector clients such as state and large local government employee health plans. It offers significant visibility and client interaction, opportunities to contribute as an influential member of client teams, and an opportunity to grow into client leadership roles.

The Role:

The Health Consultant will collaborate directly with team members including the lead health consultant for a given client, actuaries, clinicians, attorneys and analysts, to provide an integrated and thorough approach to meeting clients’ financial needs within demanding timelines. Key accountabilities include:

  • Develop RFPs and evaluate proposals for a variety of health and welfare benefits – e.g., medical, pharmacy, dental, vision, stop loss, life, disability, and other benefit programs;
  • Research topics related to a wide variety of benefit provisions and client questions;
  • Develop project plans and manage multiple client projects simultaneously;
  • Collaborate with consultants and vendors on behalf of clients;
  • Prepare reports and presentations related to the subject material;
  • Gather data to form conclusions and benchmark key utilization and cost statistics to manage clients’ health plans.
  • Analyze and interpret data for a variety of health and welfare benefits, including medical, pharmacy, stop loss, dental, vision, life and disability coverages, and other benefit programs;
  • Understand budget projections;
  • Price benefit changes for health coverages utilizing experience and/or manual rating tools; and
  • Work on ad hoc analyses, reports, and projects.

The Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree with experience in a quantitative analysis (e.g., accounting, actuarial, mathematics) and analytical skills;
  • 2-6 years of health benefits, actuarial, managed care, and/or underwriting experience;
  • experience evaluating vendor proposals is a plus;
  • familiarity with various funding arrangements – e.g., fully insured vs self-insured,
  • participating vs non-participating, etc;
  • ability to work independently with limited direction and adapt to changing client needs, new
  • market trends and concepts;
  • strong analytical skills (research, writing, data analyses, reasoning);
  • action-oriented and detailed;
  • able to thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing conflicting deadlines tactfully;
  • proficiency in project management;
  • excellent follow-through and strong communication skills (written and verbal); and
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office products, with emphasis on Excel.
