The primary responsibilities of the Associate Director of Development are to work with the Assistant Dean for External Relations serving as a frontline fundraiser while also helping to manage the day-to-day operations of the development office.
Maintain personal contact with donors to develop their interest in School programs and to provide information concerning gift opportunities. Manage the relationships between School leadership (including the Board of Visitors) and major gift prospects. Solicit annual, campaign and planned gifts to meet Indiana University and Lilly Family School of Philanthropy campaign goals and objective. Working with the Dean and Assistant Dean for External Relations in providing the School with professional fundraising to include planning and coordinating various programs, projects and efforts aiding in the acquisition of capital, annual, and deferred gifts on a continuing basis consistent with the approved fundraising goals.
Serve as the primary development officer to work with the Mays Family Institute on Diverse Philanthropy, staff, and the dean in the effort to build the Council and Advisors and secure funding and partnerships to benefit the Institute. Responsible for the cultivation and solicitation of gifts from prospective donors. Includes performing or supervising donor research, growing the operating and endowed funds, gift solicitation and inspiring staff and volunteers in raising annual and leadership gifts each year.
Supervise and oversee the work of development staff, hourly employees and graduate assistants while collaborating with the Board of Visitors to support the mission and vision of the School. Assist with the day-to-day operations of the office.
Represent the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at local, state and national level conferences and meetings that provide opportunities to engage with current and prospective donors.
Prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions. Oversee maintenance of database and records of activities described above as necessary.
REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience with nonprofit or higher education organizations and demonstrated record of fundraising success.
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.
Possess a valid driver’s license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.
Ability to effectively communicate and exchange information with a wide variety of individuals, excellent interpersonal skills, and a customer service orientation. Strong organizational and multitasking skills including the ability to manage multiple priorities. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Masters in Philanthropic Studies, nonprofit management or related field. CFRE.
Working Conditions / Physical Demands
Tasks associated with this position are typical of an office environment. The person employed in this position will be required to perform essential functions with or without an accommodation. Attention to detail is critical to the careful handling of confidential materials and staff and volunteers operating under the stress of a high volume situation. Both in-state and out-of-state travel are required for this position.
