TEMP Substance Use Counselor - Outpatient DMC - Drug and Alcohol Counseling

Outpatient programs provide trauma-informed care aimed at reducing the harmful impacts of substance use. Participants and their counselors work collaboratively to design an integrated, individualized, strengths-based treatment experience geared towards addressing each client’s specific needs and goals. Outpatient programs provide individual and group therapy, individualized case management, treatment planning, drug and alcohol counseling, crisis intervention, and connection to social support services.

Job Overview

This is a union position. Prototypes Women's center is a 180 bed residential facility for women and women with children. We also offer intensive outpatient services to adult men and women. We provide comprehensive substance use disorder, mental health, and psychiatric care by an interdisciplinary team of professionals. Treatment episode ranges in time from 60 days to 6 months. Prototypes is a fast-paced environment that treats acute care clients.

We are looking for a candidate who is dependable, empathic, and efficient to work as part of an interdisciplinary team to provide optimal treatment for our clients; someone who is able to facilitate a safe and structured environment for our clients. The position requires the candidate to be able to provide trauma-informed treatment, crisis management, display a strong understanding of clients with co-occurring disorders and must be adaptable to change in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivers individual and group substance use disorder services and completes treatment plans.
  • Assists with coordination of care by providing appropriate linkages and referrals to additional resources as needed.
  • Responsible for treatment oversight of the clients on their caseload.
  • Meets the expected client care hours (productivity expectation is 25 client care hours per week).
  • Maintains appropriate clinical documentation and completes all progress notes within 72 hours of service delivery.
  • Completes client UA tests and documents test results.
  • Remains in compliance with the agency policy and procedures, HIPAA, 42-CFR, and SAPC standards.
  • Works collaboratively with other members of the treatment team including the psychiatrist, clinical therapist, etc.

Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education:

  • Registration as a Substance Abuse Counselor from an approved/accredited California agency.

Experience:

  • Preferably a minimum of two years’ experience in the human service field and demonstrated expertise in substance abuse treatment, relapse prevention, and recovery.
  • Experience working with clients experiencing acute withdrawal from substances.
  • Knowledge of and experience with providing trauma-informed services.
  • Experience delivering evidence-based practice.
