Veterinarian for Veterinary Tech Program - Part Time - Surgeries

  • Once a week, approximately 1/2 day, perform surgeries with our Veterinary Tech students.  
  • Typical Surgeries are cat/dog spay and neuters, working alongside the Primary Instructor

Job Summary

In the instructor aspect of this role, you will instruct students & deliver class instruction related to anesthesia & surgeries, , actively promote student retention, and perform related work as required.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Classroom Instruction

  • Design (as needed) and deliver class instruction through the development of instructional plans to meet course competencies. Use standard curriculum where available.
  • Follow and enforced Student Guidelines
  • manages program supplies and equipment in good repair
  • Enters classroom at designated time with all necessary materials. Begins and ends class at scheduled times and follows scheduled student break times

Outside of Class Time

  • Completion of a minimum of one pre-approved professional development workshop, seminar or course related to the teaching discipline of the Instructor every fiscal year
  • Attends two Ross Education LLC in-services every fiscal year
  • Attends formal and informal faculty/staff meetings
  • Informs Assistant Campus Director of Education or Program Director immediately of unsatisfactory academic student progress, discipline or attitude problems, and occurrences that warrant discussion
  • Under direction of Program Director, and/or Assistant Campus Director of Education, provides additional support to students on alerts, warnings and/or probations
  • Attends quarterly faculty meetings to discuss classroom concerns, student issues, retention and placement, curriculum development and assessment, survey results and other topics as appropriate
  • Participates in school events regarding student retention and placement

Performs related work as required


  • Instructors in the program must have knowledge and expertise in the topics they teach and promote the appropriate role of the veterinary technician in the veterinary health care team. Instructional duties must not violate local, state, or federal laws regarding the practice of veterinary medicine.
  • Must be a licensed veterinarian with a minimum of three years of clinical/surgical experience

And All Instructors must have:

  • Must have sufficient ability to move around the building and classroom to satisfy student needs and/or facilitate student participation
  • Must have sufficient visual and auditory ability to operate computer equipment, use telephone, read materials, use white board and use classroom equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively in classroom and individual settings
  • Knowledge of materials (subjects) that will be taught to students and ability to use and communicate Ross curriculum
  • Ability to adapt quickly in fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to use current technology to maintain student records, e.g., Microsoft Office, CampusVue
  • Ability to achieve or maintain credential and/or licensure within expected time frames
  • Demonstrates professionalism in manner, dress and conduct as a representative of Ross and a student mentor
  • Ability to remain objective and treat all students equally
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Adhere to Ross Code of Conduct and Professional Ethics

Prior teaching or formal tutoring experience using a developed curriculum, preferred
