VP & GM Large Group Business

The successful candidate will serve as the Vice President California Large Group Business and be responsible for achieving sales objectives and accelerating business growth in the Large Group Commercial business for California (100+, Public Entities, Large Group Account Managed and New Business Sales).  This position is accountable for profit/loss and sales/retention of the group market in California that is located in multiple field office locations.  We currently enjoy servicing 3,300+ customers, with a membership of over 3.7 million lives, and $16 billion in revenue, the largest of Company’s 14 Large Group states which is second largest corporate-wide P&L.   Additionally the person serves as a member of Company Commercial Local Business leadership team to support broad commercial business strategies and achieve optimal results.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be the primary face of the company in the California Large Group market
  • Drive the execution of growth strategy and ensures programs and practices are developed and implemented to ensure effective sales, retention, underwriting, broker strategies/incentives, product development and deployment
  • Be accountable for providing strategic and operational direction/leadership, overseeing and managing growth strategy and ensuring programs and practices are developed and implemented to ensure effective sales, retention, underwriting, broker strategy/incentives, product development and deployment
  • Analyze market and competitive information to develop and adjust sales strategy
  • Synthesize and articulate information from the home office to the sales force and from the sales force to the home office
  • Achieve aggressive performance targets
  • Oversee product development and vendor management
  • Interface externally with regulators and other key stakeholders
  • Drive local marketing/public/government relations

  • Hire, train, coach, counsel and evaluate performance of direct reports

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (Master's preferred)
  • Demonstrated thinker outside the box
  • Narrow network development experience highly preferred
  • Marketing and/or Finance experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience building and leading teams
  • 10-15 years of increasingly responsible leadership experience with a large organization
  • Experience and knowledge of sales, marketing, network management, underwriting, operations and finance
  • Demonstrated superior oral, written, and interpersonal communication, persuasion, and negotiation skills
  • Strategic thinking and demonstrated organizational leadership capabilities required
  • Key skills include analytical ability, innovation and creativity, teamwork and communications
  • Ability to successfully interface at all levels with the customer, industry, and corporate interfaces
  • Experience and understanding of risk management, regulatory compliance, audit and controls
  • Strong leadership, change management, coaching, and staff development skills
