Deep Springs College, a highly selective two-year college of 26 students on a California high desert ranch, is accepting visiting professor applications for the fall and/or spring semesters of 2025-2026 and summer term May-June 2026. Scholars from across the Natural Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences, STEM fields, and the Arts are welcome to apply.

On top of rigorous academics, students at Deep Springs devote between twenty to thirty hours each week to labor activities on the campus, in the kitchen, and on the ranch. In addition to being a self-governing body, students participate in college governance, student admissions, and the hiring and reviewing of faculty and staff.

Professors at Deep Springs have a unique impact on the intellectual culture of the school; a specific interest in how pedagogy may inform a life of service would be invaluable in this role. Deep Springs is a small and isolated community. As such, professors are expected to engage with the community beyond the classroom by fostering rapport with students and colleagues; opportunities include sharing in meals, projects, recreation, research, and ongoing conversation.

Applications can be submitted here:

We ask for a cover letter, a CV, and a teaching statement including short descriptions of three self-designed courses you would be interested in teaching at Deep Springs. Letters of reference will be requested for finalists. We will begin reviewing applications on December 8th.

Visiting professor positions at Deep Springs pay $10,000 per semester or $5,000 for the summer term, plus free housing and meals. In addition, the college will reimburse moving expenses up to $1,000. Visiting professors typically teach one seminar-style course of 10 students maximum per semester. More about Deep Springs can be found at the College website:
