Job Details:
The College of Pharmacy is searching for an Animal Caretaker and Vivarium Assistant on the Atlanta, Georgia campus.
Work with the Director of Vivarium on assigned duties, including performing daily animal husbandry tasks like, but not only, ensuring health status of animals is good, bedding check and making sure each cage has adequate amounts of food and water with easy access.
Responsibilities:
The Animal Caretaker/Vivarium Assistant works with the Director of Vivarium to interact professionally with faculty and trainees to ensure successful accomplishment of animal protocols. Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Perform daily animal husbandry tasks.
* Inspect and take care of all animals for health status.
* Make sure each cage has adequate amounts of food and water with easy access for the animals.
* Bedding check for all animals in vivarium-if wet or flooded, change cage and/or bedding.
* Complete daily animal husbandry checklist for each colony room which includes recording the temperature and humidity for each colony room.
* Maintaining the cleanliness of the animal facility and animal rooms.
* Change all animal cages once a week on the same schedule.
* Operate cage washer and wash all dirty cages.
* Wash water bottles.
* Dispose of carcasses in the incinerator as needed.
* Work and interact professionally with faculty and trainees to ensure successful accomplishment of animal protocols.
(Duties may be added or revised as deemed necessary by the Director of Vivarium)
Qualifications:
A high school diploma or GED is required. Candidates must have the ability to learn and apply basic principles and practices of laboratory animal care and facility maintenance. Additionally, candidates must have the ability to work with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint).
