The LA County Board of Supervisors recently declared a local state of emergency for homelessness, and the County is working to revise and expand our response to help all who are affected. We are looking for qualified and passionate individuals to help us in the mission of addressing issues like housing, mental health, and substance use. The Department of Mental Health is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency Video Production Specialist vacancies related to the homelessness crisis.
Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment.
Before the end of your initial work period, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%.
Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Video Production Specialist.
Writing, producing, directing, and editing audio and video productions.
Plans and develops audio and video programs by transforming training and other objectives into production ideas requiring the determination of format, approach, content, and level of presentation which will be most effective in meeting objectives and remaining within budget and time restrictions.
Converts production ideas into finished production script by working with subject matter experts, by preparing outlines to summarize and storyboards to illustrate the action, developing shot lists, and by writing dialog and adding director's instructions for the cast and crew to follow.
Analyzes scripts containing complicated subject matter in order to determine effective presentation of ideas, considering clarity, effect, credibility, color, and psychological impact issues.
Operates broadcast quality audio and video production equipment as a producer, director, or as a crew member on programs produced by others, by following the instructions of the director and primary equipment operator to produce artistic and technical quality of sound and pictures.
Operates both PC and Macintosh computers with word processing, communications, database, graphics, video and audio editing, and other special effects software.
Directs the production of a wide variety of materials (e.g., audio recordings [studio and on-location], including mixing, editing, duplication, distribution, and storage/archiving; video productions [studio and on-location], including mixing, editing, duplication, distribution, and storage/archiving; online/web-based meetings, trainings, and presentations [studio and on-location], including mixing, editing, duplication, distribution, and storage/archiving; self-paced instructional materials, etc.).
Operates or supervises the operation of a wide variety of audio/visual equipment (e.g., still and video cameras, video recorders, audio mixers, lighting equipment, & overhead projectors.)
Evaluates, recommends, maintains, and cares for electronic equipment, hardware and software utilized for multi-media production.
Studies and recommends solutions to problems affecting multi-media production, such as budgeting, scheduling, cost effectiveness, equipment, and deadline issues.
Coordinates projects, evaluates feasibility of utilizing contract services to accomplish objectives, and monitors performance and quality of outside vendors.SELECTION REQUIREMENTS:
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited* college in communications, journalism, film, fine arts or a related field and one (1) year's experience within the last three (3) years, writing, producing, and directing training or informational programs using broadcast level video technology used within the last three (3) years.

LICENSE:
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
PHYSICAL CLASS:
Physical Class II - Light. This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:
