We are searching for a Truck Driver to work in our Pet Segment, providing logistics, production, and maintenance support at our Fish Mart, West Haven, CT location. This position primarily involves loading freight on trucks for deliveries. Primary job duties are driving, delivering and unloading freight to various locations and businesses. Other duties involving errands, picking up supplies, supporting maintenance and production crews are also typical.  If you find your skills match the qualifications we are seeking below, we invite you to apply for this position!

Monday & Friday - Airport Pickup/ Truck unloading/Cleaning

Tuesday - Thursday - Deliveries

To safely drive company vehicles, abiding by all driving laws in all states vehicles travel in; to safely transport livestock (aquatics, animals, birds, reptiles, etc.) while maintaining proper temperature controls, proper periodic checking of livestock and the placement of animal carriers and fish containers in company vehicle, rotating as necessary. To courteously and efficiently deliver orders to customers, and pick up shipments at airports.


  • To follow all policies and procedures as found in Driver’s Manual.

  • To complete all tasks assigned by the Manager on duty.

  • To maintain a professional attitude and appearance while on the job.

  • To check all vehicle fluids daily before leaving facility, and to report any issues (taillight out, etc.).

  • To load trucks for delivery routes ensuring the proper number of boxes/carriers are loaded per manifest/ cap sheet. To handle all boxes and carriers carefully, as they contain living fish, animals, reptiles, and birds.

  • To deliver to customer stores on assigned delivery routes. Check in orders completely on the stores where this is required, to ensure all items are received, in an efficient and pleasant manner. Make any adjustments on both customer and our office copies, getting customer signatures on company’s copy. Receive payments where indicated.

  • To keep boxes and carriers secured in vehicle .Assure placement of all boxes and carriers for proper air ventilation and so that none are in a position of getting too cool or too warm.

  • To keep temperature in the vehicle at approximately 75 degrees, or a range of 70 to 80 degrees. Monitor thermometer in rear of vehicle.

  • To keep any returned items near you, and to return them to Fish Mart as directed.

  • To bring written feedback back to Fish Mart from customers, competitors, etc.

  • While on the road, keep an eye open for stores we don’t currently service and bring back information

  • To pick up shipments at airports aa trained.

  • To fill out daily log accurately and completely.

  • Assist in the training of new department employees on the equipment, procedures, and practices of the department.

  • Perform other assignments/special projects from time to time as directed by management.


  • Ability and willingness to work with others.

  • Must have a clean driving record.

  • Comfortable driving trucks as large as a 26’ box truck in urban conditions.

  • Maintain punctual and regular attendance for scheduled work hours.

  • Must have a clean driving record.

  • Obtain a valid Florida driver’s license.

  • CDL and or DOT certified preferred, but not required.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately.

  • Responsible, reliable and dependable work habits.

  • Ability to problem solve and detail oriented.

  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

  • Must have and maintain a clean driving record.

  • To be able to read and write English.

  • Must have own phone or use company phone for when on the road.

  • To be able to identify basic types of livestock, and the ability to learn to identify most or all of the various live creatures we handle.

  • Be physically able to get in and out of trucks and vans and of lifting approximately 50 pounds.


  • Work starting 5:00 AM Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday.

  • End of day varies depending upon shipments & duties anticipated each day. 

  • Expect 12 hour routes up to 15 hours.

  • Ability to lift packages to 50 lbs. or more.
