Job Description

The Data Analyst works collaboratively with members of the Decision Support and Reporting team in the Office of Online Education (OOE) to design, test, implement, and maintain regular and ad-hoc reports pertaining to all aspects of online education throughout the university. You will conduct a variety of standard and custom analytics in the areas of student enrollment, retention, and completion, student learning, and student prospect management and marketing effectiveness. Results of analytics are used to inform decisions regarding online program and course offerings, improve student learning and success, and optimize student recruitment and marketing efforts.

Data sources used by our team include the Indiana University Student Information System and data warehouse, the Canvas Learning Management System, Salesforce CRM, and Google Analytics. The Data Analyst will use a variety of software tools including SQL editors, Excel, Tableau, and Alteryx to pull, prep, blend, analyze, and present data from these various sources as needed to create meaningful insights for OOE and university leadership, and to submit required reports to external agencies and survey institutions. The Decision Support and Reporting team also supports university level planning and business processes, governmental compliance reporting, accreditation, exploratory analysis, and institutional research and assessment activities. The Data Analyst will design, test, and maintain interactive dashboards to provide self-service analytics to OOE as well as campus and university academic leadership.

Because the Decision Support and Reporting team supports an innovative and rapidly growing office within the university, we are seeking a Data Analyst who loves the challenge of working with a variety of data sources, conducting exploratory analysis to look for interesting patterns and research opportunities in the data, learning new tools and techniques to advance our analytics capabilities, and creating compelling summaries and visualizations of our results to inform the work of the office as well as the university as a whole.

Ability to write complex queries to blend and manipulate data from multiple sources. Ability to summarize data through visual and tabular reports with excellent attention to detail. Ability to effectively communicate and exchange information. Excellent organizational skills.

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, informatics, management information systems or related field. Experience in a higher education setting.

Working Conditions / Physical Demands

The Data Analyst position is located on the IU Southeast campus in New Albany, Indiana. Standard hours for this position are 8:00 am– 5:00 pm. Travel to other IU campuses may sometimes be required for this position.

The Office of Online Education is deeply committed to professional development. Your colleagues will inspire you to grow in your career through opportunities for continuing education, seminars and conferences offered by professional organizations, and a variety of university-sponsored training programs.
