This company is a mid-sized New York Fashion house, specializing in men’s and women’s apparel, accessories, and footwear. They are looking for a Freelance Merchandise Assistant in their corporate office.

Salary/Hourly Rate: $15 – $17 DOE

Position Overview: The Freelance Merchandise Assistant will be directly supporting the Merchandising and Buying Team, to set up new products, create and track purchase orders, assist with the creation and distribution of weekly sales reports, and be able to identify relevant trends to support the team in increasing sales. The Merchandise Assistant works directly with the Buying Team as administrative support with clerical tasks and data entry related to specific merchandise. Tasks include setting up new items in the database, inputting price changes, creating purchase orders online, and assisting with the development of weekly sales reports. The Merchandise Assistant requires organizational and analytical skills, as well as the ability to communicate with all cross-functional teams and external partners. The Merchandise Assistant requires frequent communication with other members of the buying team as well as with vendors, distribution centers, and stores.

Responsibilities of the Freelance Merchandising Assistant:

  • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks
  • Adapts easily to changes in workload and assignment
  • Manages day-to-day activities of regulatory compliance tasks such as CPSIA, Comp Retail Audits, RTV’s and Transfers
  • Creates purchase orders in system
  • Manages and organizes product samples
  • Updates pricing information
  • Maintains reports upon request by merchant team
  • Effectively communicates with external sources; responsive to customer issues and store requests
  • Works cooperatively with others. Displays a positive attitude and a willingness to assist co-workers at all levels. Adapts to and works effectively with a variety of situations, individuals or groups
  • Demonstrates initiative; anticipates needs of business/office and responds accordingly
  • Contributes to the success of the department
  • Eager to learn and assume additional responsibility. Enthusiastically develops new skills; seeks out new and efficient ways to perform tasks
  • Follow up with necessary testing and aid in SOP creations for processes

Qualifications for the Freelance Merchandising Assistant:

  • 4 year degree preferred
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Identify priorities with sense of urgency
  • Proficiency in Excel, including V look ups and Pivot Tables
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Fashion background preferred
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills and takes initiatives on tasks

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree- or equivalent
