JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE

Reporting to the Vice President, New Product Development, the Product Development Engineer position will develop and execute strategic new business initiatives.   Leveraging Materion’s capabilities and reputation as a leading innovator in composite metals, this position will be responsible for the successful commercialization of assigned new products.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and execute strategic new business initiatives and lead the successful commercialization for assigned new products
  • Identify innovative new product solutions for a variety of high-tech end markets
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate between process engineering, quality and manufacturing personnel regarding the successful launch of new programs
  • Working with field sales, technically support selective market initiatives in the field through extensive customer meetings and communications
  • Coordinate pricing/profitability and competitive analysis along with technology assessments for product launches
  • Support and coordinate global programs


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science or engineering

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years progressive experience in metals or related industry, preferably involving strip or clad metal engineering or metal parts/component design and manufacturing
  • Specialty metals market knowledge in the medical, automotive, telecommunications, computer or electronics industries
  • Previous product development experience with significant customer contact

Capabilities

  • Expertise with various alloy families (ferrous, copper based, refractory, aluminum and precious metal alloys) is an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; especially communicating complex technical issues to a variety of audiences
