Duties/Responsibilities

  1. The job includes but is not limited to work in laboratory, greenhouse, and field to study the molecular epidemiology of insect-transmitted viruses in GA. Develop research design, diagnostic tools, data analysis, interpretation, project management, results summarization, and formal presentations in meetings and symposiums. (70%)
  2. Continue graduate student course credits. (20%)
  3. Writing reports and presenting data in symposiums. (10%)


Minimum Qualifications

PhD position is available starting Spring 2025 in the plant virology laboratory, Department of Plant Pathology, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, The University of Georgia-Tifton. The successful applicant will contribute to a project involving insect-transmitted virus characterization and epidemiology in crops grown in the region including vegetables, peanuts, and tobacco. Studying the various components of the pathosystem with emphasis on virus-vector and virus-host interaction in crops important to Georgia. Application of genomics approach for host resistance against the viruses in cotton crops. Disseminate the research outcomes through conferences, symposia, and peer-reviewed research articles.



Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification

Recent graduate with a major in molecular biology/plant science/plant biology/biochemistry/biotechnology or allied subject with a GPA of 3.5 and above is preferred. Experience in plant virology labs and exposure to field, greenhouse, and molecular labs would be an advantage. Higher GRE and a good TOEFL score are needed.



Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Prior experience and exposure to molecular techniques, field analysis is preferred.
