Join And Grow With Us. Babcock Power is searching for a Lead Structural Engineer for our Akron, OH office. In this position, you'll be responsible for providing structural, civil and mechanical engineering services. Services provided will include structural steel engineering design, foundation/concrete engineering design, boiler intimate steel engineering design, and managing outsourced engineering design. It also can include pipe and pipe support engineering design, skid engineering design, ductwork engineering design, steel structure design, foundation design, etc.

Essential Responsibilities:
* Proposal development and estimates of man-hours and materials.
* Design and analysis of various steel structures such as steel frame structures, ductwork, foundations, etc.
* Generation of load diagrams for equipment/duct support/steel frame loads.
* Responsibility for ensuring the structural integrity of steel and support structures, ductwork, pressure parts and supports, and ensuring constructibility of the structure.
* Site assessment, investigation and securing of information needed for an accurate development of steel arrangements and proposals.
* Preparation of 3D analysis models for new and altered designs
* Provide analysis results in an effective form (written, marked up drawings, sketches, spreadsheets, presentation, as required) on work performed.
* Managing of subcontracting engineering work
* Preparation of technical and fabrication specifications.
* Monitor the work product of vendors, including schedule, budget, scope requirements, technical review, and deliverables. Ensure project adherence to the schedule.
* Review and critically analyze customer specifications and documents to ensure design compliance highlighting areas in need of exception, clarification, or noting deviations for universal acceptance.
* Participate in meetings with customer's engineering consultants or others. Travel, as required, for resolution of field-encountered issues.
* Track man-hours to provide feedback to the team and functional manager on graphics man-hour expenditures per project
Job Requirements / Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
* Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution is required. Master's degree is a plus
* Professional Engineering (PE) license for structural steel required
* Five (5) years of experience with structural steel and foundations
* Working knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations such as ASCE, AISC, ACI, and IBC
* Working knowledge of weld design per AWS D1.1/D1.3 and ASME Section IX
* Working knowledge of ASME BPVC Section I, Section XIII, and B31.1/B31.3 is a plus
* STAAD, pro experience required
* AutoPIPE or Caesar experience is a plus
* ANSYS or other FEA experience is a plus
* 3D modeling/drafting tools such as AutoCAD 2D/3D, Plant 3D, Inventor, Creo experience is a plus
* Navisworks experience (including model integration, clash checks, etc.)
* Experience reading boiler general arrangements, steel erection arrangements, steel shop details, grating details, piping layouts, pipe isometric drawings, and pipe support details, P&IDs is required
* Experience with boiler structural steel such as buckstays, penthouse steel, etc. a plus
* Experience with the design and analysis of steel and concrete structures including foundations, equipment supports, and buildings
