Job Description

Dakota State University is accepting applications for a Mental Health Counselor. This 10-month position will be responsible for providing counseling, life coaching, structured mentorship, and seminar courses around social and life skill development for students at DSU. This counselor will also provide general counseling support for students experiencing general psychosocial difficulties and academic issues. The counselor will also be a central liaison for students and will collaborate effectively with other services and resources on campus and in the community and provide information when required to support student emotional health and academic success.

A master's degree required in counseling or related discipline such as psychology, sociology, social work or human services and behavior sciences. A certification from the National Board for Certified Counselors is preferred. If not currently licensed, the ability to work towards licensure completion is required. Candidates must have the ability to work with students and have a minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience in higher education working with students in a leadership role in the areas of counseling, education and administration. Preferred candidate would also have experience as a licensed professional counselor. Qualified candidates must be able to demonstrate effective counseling skills, conflict resolution skills, mediation and negotiations skills, analytical and problem-solving skills and emergency response skills. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
