Job Title: Computer Programmer

Job Summary:                                      

CONTRA COSTA ELECTRIC, INC. has a position available as Computer Programmer to support departments as assigned at the Martinez Home Office. This position reports directly to the Manager of IT. The ideal candidate has a strong background in software development and programming. He or she will have an enhanced facility with the Windows operating system and associated hardware. The ideal candidate is a hard-working individual who has a creative but analytical mindset.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Code and test programming for in-house software programs
  • Debug code for existing programs based on immediate need
  • Balance workday between multiple projects and respond immediately to tech support requests from staff
  • Implement systems in in-house production environment
  • Report issues and concerns immediately to IT manager
  • Participate in development of new software applications
  • Write code that supports these objectives and provides optimal functionality
  • Edit and improve upon code in existing software programs and applications
  • Design new programs and applications that will enhance our business
  • Ensure code is error-free, readable, efficient, and logically organized for ease of access
  • Aptly name variables and include code comments for future users
  • Provide supplemental program instructions and diagrams for code in layman’s terms
  • Develop set systems and tasks for efficient coding processes
  • Troubleshoot errors effectively and efficiently
  • Create, manage, and maintain coding databases
  • Frequently run upgrades on systems
  • Utilize information from code libraries to ease and expedite the coding process
  • Ensure programs, external equipment, networks, etc. are all in proper communication
  • Provide model diagrams and prototypes of your programming system
  • Conduct end-user training upon completion of software
  • Collaborate in cross-functional projects

Qualifications Required:

The requirements listed below are representative of characteristics and demonstrated capabilities sought to perform this job successfully.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Programming or related field
  • 3+ years’ software development experience
  • Ability to focus on multiple projects at once and to troubleshoot problems quickly
  • Commitment to continuing education in computer programming (training at employer’s expense)
  • Proven mastery of use in our preferred coding language
  • Professional manner and accountable for work performed
  • Strong independent work ethic
  • Efficient and accurate coder
  • Adept problem solver
  • Excellent database management skills
  • Results driven

Computer Applications used to perform daily tasks:

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel) applications.
  • Extensive experience with Java, C#, SQL server database and C++
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows operating systems and Microsoft software
  • HTML and CSS experience preferred
  • Must have the ability to learn other database software as needed
