The basic function of the Senior Financial Accountant is to support all of the GAAP and to coordinate external audit requests such as the preparation of consolidated audited financial statements, annual pension financial statements and other financial reports.
Responsibilities:Financial Statements and Audits
- Prepare GAAP financial statements, footnote disclosures and disclosure checklist
- Monitor and coordinate audit requests between external auditors and process owners for various audits (e.g. financial audit, Model Audit Rule, etc.); follows up with the process owners for overdue items or as necessary
- Review the general ledger account reporting trees and trial balance, and provide recommendations to ensure compliance with the accounting requirements
Other Financial Statements
- Prepare and/or assist in the preparation of other quarterly and annual financial statements and support (e.g. GHI Albany Dental, GHI Federal Employees Health Benefits Program, Emblem Uniform Grant Guidance, etc.)
- Coordinate with various process owners to provide the external auditors with all supporting documents for the financial statements
- Prepare the disclosure checklists
Pension Plan and 401K Reporting
- Prepares the year-end financial statements and footnote disclosures and audit packages
- Assists in coordinating various employee benefit plan audits
- Reviews various schedules and footnotes provided by other departments
Monthly Reports and Ad-hoc Projects
- Act like a backup for preparing monthly reports during the financial close
- Ensure that all Oracle Cloud reports are up to date for both GAAP and Management Reporting
- Identify opportunities for improvements in reporting and participates in workgroups as needed
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
- CPA or a candidate for CPA, a plus
- Practical experience in preparation of GAAP financial statements
- Experience in audit and pension financial statements a plus
- Intermediate skills in Excel
- Knowledge of Hyperion or similar analysis tool is a plus
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- At least 4 years of combined experience in audit and/or GAAP Financial Statements preparation
- Detail-oriented and possesses the ability to manage multiple responsibilities under tight time frames
- Possesses strong work ethic and integrity
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Professional skepticism and a willingness to challenge the status quo
- Ability to conduct independent research and apply problem-solving skills to complete special projects
